PhD student, Clemson University
Timmy Samec, from Drums, PA, is a PhD student in the bioengineering department at Clemson University. He currently works in the Nanobiotechnology Lab, led by Dr. Angela Alexander-Bryant. Timmy’s research areas focus on peptide delivery systems for gene therapy of late-stage ovarian cancer cell types as well as real-time analysis of drug therapies in glioblastoma multiforme treatment. Just this past spring, Timmy received NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Honorable Mention recognition. He also received Academic All-American honors by the National Collegiate Wrestling Association.
Before attending Clemson, Timmy received his bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in physics with a concentration in computational biophysics. At SRU, Timmy was recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Senior Man and was a finalist for the prestigious Syed Ali-Zaidi award, which names the outstanding senior student in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Outside of the academic setting, Timmy is a competitive triathlete. He has been racing for 8 years, is a member of Clemson University’s Triathlon Club, and has been named to Team USA twice in which he was a competitor at world championship events. Timmy is also a national qualifier at 157 pounds as a member of the Clemson University Wrestling Club, where he currently serves as Vice President. He is a member of BMES and is very active within Clemson’s chapter of BMES, the Clemson Bioengineering Society.
