What is SCIENCE ON THE MOVE?

Science on the Move gives Jordan School District students a chance to explore science by joining the district specialists on a virtual field trip. What makes this virtual experience different from others is an interactive, standards-based lesson for students to be a part of as they participate in the virtual experience.

Science on the Move seeks to connect students with organizations, places, and experiences around that state. Using the avenue of the Utah SEEd Standards and the tools of modern technology, students will get a first-hand field trip experience!

Throughout the school year, district science specialists will publish dates for the Science on the Move experiences. Each experience will be open for 10 classrooms to join LIVE! Materials and resources will be sent to the classroom teacher via email and district mail prior to the experience.

GRAVITY and INERTIA - SEEd Standard 6.1.2

Join this virtual experience from the Clark Planetarium to explore the concepts of gravity and inertia in the solar system. A museum docent will guide your students through how all the objects in our solar system are held in orbit by gravity from the Sun.

UTAH LAKE - SEEd Standard 5.3.4

Utah Lake has been a source of controversy and ecological problems for almost the last 100 years. This activity will help your students see how what Utah Lake used to be and what it is now.

FOSSILS at CLEVELAND-LLOYD - SEEd Standard 4.1.3

While exploring the Research Quest - What Happened at the Cleveland Dinosaur Quarry, students have an opportunity to interact with the museum expert who will give students an up-close look at the artifacts showing patterns and evidence from the bones.

WATER CONSERVATION - SEEd Standard 3.2.6

As students take a virtual tour through the West Jordan Conservation Garden facility, they will will have a chance to ask a water conservation expert questions about how the cycling and conservation of water works in our valley.

JORDAN PARKWAY - SEEd Standard 2.2.4

All along the Jordan River Parkway, birds nest in homes under the overpasses. Your students will explore how birds situate their homes to stay safe and apply what they learned from our science team ornithologist, Stacy Pierce, to solve a real-world engineering problem.

CROSS-E RANCH - SEEd Standard 1.2.3 and 1.2.4

This virtual experience will take students to the Cross-E Ranch! Students will explore how baby animals are similar and different from their parents.

AUNT B's BARN - SEEd Standard K.2.1 , Standard K.2.2

This virtual experience will take students to Aunt B's Petting Barn where students will get to see and interact with all kinds of animals!

How Do I Connect with SCIENCE ON THE MOVE?

Teachers will be given a code to join the Science on the Move experience. This Zoom link will be sent to you a day or two prior to the Science on the Move adventure.
