In this course, we worked in groups to discuss current trends in eLearning and technology in education. We also imagined the future of technology in education.
This website overview of elearning discusses various trends and concepts within the discipline. It also provides resources and organizations which may benefit those who want to know more about eLearning. I created the site with two other students in in the ILT program.
Everybody loves a good game. Games are changing the way students live their lives and teachers at all levels are taking advantage of it. This trends report explains how games and gamification are being used in educational and corporate settings. It is the result of collaboration between two other ILT program students and myself. The project includes a multimedia Prezi and a written report.
In education today, we strive to meet the individual needs of every student. Students require genuine help, patience, flexibility, and an awareness of their struggles or other priorities. However, sometimes it is easy to forget that the adults in the school also have these needs as well. Through my experiences, I have found that adults are consistently expected to put aside other priorities for their jobs while students are given accommodations to meet their needs. When people feel overwhelmed by the stresses of work and home, they resist change even if it may reduce the stress. As a thought leader in my school, I must increase my awareness of the needs of my coworkers if I hope to teach and influence change within my school. I can reach adults by being helpful, patient, flexible, and aware of others' needs.
I proposed that my school utilize student e-portfolios to increase the accountability of our students. By using student e-portfolios, teachers create a form of accountability that reaches beyond grades and encourages students to do their best work. Each student is given an individualized space where they can publish and feature the work they have created in middle school. Their work is exposed to a larger community beyond the teacher. Students become motivated by the desire to show their peers, parents, and community their true potential. E-portfolios create a system of accountability that is more authentic and true to the real world where value is based on skills and quality of work.
