Step 3: Start Writing in Third Person
Remember, you are writing about yourself as if someone else is telling your story. Use your name and pronouns like "he," "she," or "they." Avoid using "I," "me," or "my."
Example: Instead of "I became a doctor," write "Sarah became a doctor."
Step 4: Write Your First Draft
Don't worry about making it perfect! This is your first draft, which means:
Focus on getting your ideas down on paper
Write freely without stopping to edit too much
Include as many details as you can imagine
Let your creativity flow—dream big about your future!
Aim for at least 3-5 sentences per section (more is encouraged!)
Step 5: Be Specific and Descriptive
The more specific you are, the more engaging your autobiography will be. Instead of writing "Maria was successful," write "Maria founded a nonprofit organization that provided clean water to over 100 communities in South America."
Step 6: Save Your Work Frequently
Make sure to save your Google Doc regularly as you write. Google Docs usually auto-saves, but it's good practice to check that your work is being saved.
Step 7: Complete All Sections
Make sure you've written something for each section of your autobiography. Even if a section feels challenging, write what you can imagine. You can always revise and improve it later!
Step 8: Read Through Your Draft
Once you've completed all sections, read through your entire autobiography from beginning to end. Ask yourself:
Does this tell the complete story of my imagined life?
Have I written in third person throughout?
Are there places where I could add more details or descriptions?
Does my story flow from one section to the next?
After completing your first draft in Google Docs, you'll move on to Phase 2 of this project where you'll transfer your autobiography into Canva Docs and add visual elements like images, graphics, and design features to make your story come alive!
If you get stuck while writing, remember:
Think about people you admire—what qualities do they have that you want to develop?
Consider your current interests and how they might grow into careers or passions
Talk to family members about what you were like as a younger child
Ask yourself: "What would make me proud when I'm 50 years old?"
Remember: This is YOUR story. Be creative, be bold, and most importantly—be yourself! Completing this project will be Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience!
