Your mission is to rethink, remodel, and recreate SMS from the ground up.

SMS 2.0: Reimagining Our School's Future

Your mission is to rethink, remodel, and recreate SMS from the ground up. As the newly appointed Chief of Education, you'll lead a comprehensive strategic planning project that will transform our educational experience.

  • Develop innovative curriculum and branding that reflects our school's values

  • Design digital solutions including a new website and mobile app

  • Create strategic staffing and facility plans that support our educational vision

Your strategic proposals will shape the future of education for over 600 students and 80 staff members at SMS 2.0.


Your Key Project Deliverables:

  • Create a Brand Kit (colors, logo, mission statement)

  • Design an innovative curriculum for grades 6-8

    • Develop new courses and descriptions

  • Prepare staffing and budget plans

    • Design teacher application forms

  • Draft facility improvement blueprints

  • Collect student feedback via surveys

  • Design a healthy cafeteria menu

  • Develop a presentation for administration

  • Create digital platforms (website and mobile app)

Welcome to the first step of SMS 2.0! 

Before we dive into the big project, we need YOUR ideas. Today you will brainstorm on a shared Canva Whiteboard with your classmates.

  1. Click on your class period's Canva Whiteboard link below

  2. Add sticky notes with your ideas for how SMS could be improved

  3. Read and react to your classmates' ideas

  4. Be prepared to discuss the top themes as a class

Success Criteria: You have contributed at least 3 meaningful ideas to the whiteboard and engaged with 2 classmates' ideas.

Congratulations, Chief of Education! 

It's time to start building your strategic plan for SMS 2.0. This Planning Document is your master blueprint — every idea you write here will be used in future projects throughout the marking period.

  1. Open your copy of the SMS 2.0 New School Planning Document

  2. Visit the project website and watch the instructional videos

  3. Fill out each section of the planning document with detailed, thoughtful responses

  4. Review your work for completeness and quality

  5. Click "TURN IN" in Google Classroom when finished

Success Criteria: All sections of the planning document are completed with detailed responses that demonstrate strategic thinking about SMS 2.0.

  • Chief of Education (COE) - The leadership role students will assume to oversee the strategic transformation of SMS 2.0

  • Strategic Plan - A comprehensive document outlining goals, objectives, and action steps for organizational transformation

  • Mission Statement - A brief description of an organization's fundamental purpose and primary objectives

  • Curriculum - The subjects comprising a course of study in a school or college

  • Transformation - A thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance; complete renovation

  • Stakeholder - A person with an interest or concern in something, especially a business or educational institution

  • Implementation - The process of putting a decision or plan into effect; execution

  • Brand Kit - A collection of visual elements (colors, logo, fonts) that represent an organization's identity

  • Innovation - The introduction of new ideas, methods, or products to improve something

  • Proposal - A formal plan or suggestion presented for consideration or approval

  • Blueprint - A detailed plan or outline for how something will be built or designed

  • Collaboration - Working together with others to achieve a shared goal

  • Infrastructure - The basic systems and structures an organization needs to operate effectively

  • Pitch Deck - A presentation used to persuade an audience to support or approve a plan or idea

  • Budget - A financial plan that estimates income and expenses for a specific period or project
