In celebration of Earth Day, students presented a geographical study exploring Jakarta’s growing vulnerability to land subsidence, rising sea levels, and climate change. Through research posters, maps, satellite images, and local case studies, they examined how rapid urban development, groundwater extraction, and environmental pressures are reshaping the city’s landscape.
The student projects demonstrated how geography can help explain the connections between human activity and environmental change. Their studies highlighted the effects of sinking land on communities, infrastructure, flooding, and long-term urban resilience.
More than an academic exhibition, the activity encouraged students to investigate real environmental challenges affecting the places where they live. By presenting evidence-based findings and possible responses, they showed how young researchers can contribute to public awareness and conversations about climate adaptation, sustainable development, and the future of vulnerable cities.
