Our cities are witnessing rapid urban growth—tall glass buildings, decorative lighting, and illuminated skylines. While beautiful, these lights bring unintended consequences. Every year, thousands of migratory birds pass over our city, flying at night guided by the moon, stars, and Earth’s natural signals. Artificial lights from buildings disrupt this navigation. Birds become confused, circle endlessly around lights, waste their energy, and often collide with glass windows they cannot see—leading to fatal injuries.
By switching off non-essential lights during migration seasons, we give birds clearer, darker skies, helping them stay on course and survive their long journeys.
🌎Our Objectives:
Sdg 7-Affordable and clean energy- Saving energy
Sdg 15- Life on Land -Saving migratory birds
✨ Our Call to Action:
We urge everyone to turn off unnecessary lights between 11:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. in winter and 11:00 p.m.–4:30 a.m. in summer. Together, we can make your city's skies safer for migratory birds.
💡 Lighting Guidelines
Switch off non-essential lights during the specified night hours.
Use blinds or curtains if indoor lights must stay on.
Avoid decorative landscaping lights in gardens or around trees.
Install downward-facing lights with shields.
Minimize or avoid floodlights.
Use focused desk lamps instead of overhead lighting.
