Recently selected for the Useful & Beautiful artist commission by Urban By Nature, London, Vasundhara’s show participations include ‘Stacking dreams,’ London Festival of Architecture at Wood Street Studios, London (2019), ‘Poka-yoke’ and ‘Drawing Index,’ at Cholamandal Artists Village, Chennai (2019). She is on the MA Fine Art course at City & Guilds of London Art School (2019-21), received a BA in History of Art from Goldsmiths’ (2013), studied Architecture at the Architectural Association (2009-2011), and Foundation at Chelsea College of Arts (2008) in London. Born in Coimbatore, she was brought up in Chennai, and currently lives and works in London.
My primary subject is the celebration of popular vernacular façade paintings in peri-urban South India. I view this as a precursor and continuum of Western abstract painting and post-modern design. This evokes questions around authorship, the canon and outsider art and architecture.
