These gym photos taken January 2024 by Lori Curtis capture the amazing truly breathtaking woodwork of the "Hooiser style" gymnasium.

“Banister by 1937 Addition Doors” taken in September 2022 by Julie Collison.  This photo highlights the fir window casings that can be found throughout the building. As well, the photo features the windows of the era that provide natural light to the unique side-door interior foyer.

“Parkland Gym and Stage View” taken by Julie Collison in September 2022 spotlights the expanse of the gym, center placement of a performing arts stage, and ample floor and bleacher seating for a stage performance.  We want the ceilings of the entire school professionally assessed by experts in the area of historic preservation/rehabilitation. 

“Stairs 2” taken by Phillip Edlund taken in September 2022 captures the captivating nature of the multiple levels of exploration available in the school building.  It also showcases the early 1900 crown molding and banister railing that is original and representative of the vertical grain fir finishing of the time period.

These photos taken January 2024 by Lori Curtis highlight only a few of the turn of the century "craftsman style" details that can be found throughout the school.  Some of the wood is painted while other portions smell like wonderful Douglas Fir.

A complete Condition and Needs Assessment (CNA) was conducted by Historic Architect, Vernon Abelsen in March 2023. He completed a preservation assessment concluding, “Overall, building appears sound, consistent with Nov. 22, 2011 report by PCS Structural Solutions commissioned by Pacific Lutheran University.”  Read more FAQs here.
