Standards:
"4-PS3-2. Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents" (NGSS Lead States, 2013).
Objectives:
Students will be able to define and describe thermal and electrical energy.
Students will be able to observe how heat energy and electrical energy can be transfers from place to place.
Description: The fourth lesson in the unit will be a self-paced and held asynchronously. Students will access the course in Canvas and navigate to the day 4 module. They will find a Google Slide presentation that will guide them though the content of the day. Studnets will have the flexibility to complete the daily tasks by the end of the day. Today students will learn about sound and light energy. They will be provided with links to readings and videos and note taking sheets. They will explore the grade level content to deepen their knowledge on these 2 types of energy.
Exit Ticket Formative Assessment: In the GoogleSlide there will be a trait sort. Students will drop and drag the defining features, word and ideas about the 2 types of energy into the right column to demonstrate understanding of thermal and electrical energy.
Office Hours: Teacher will hold Zoom office hours at 2PM- 3PM. These office hours will be a time where the teacher can utilize the small class setting to provide reteaching where necessary. Teacher can reexplain, elaborate and add on to concepts covered in the prior classes. This time can also be used for question and answers sessions. Parents and students can pop in and get clarification on topics and the overall unit. This Zoom session will be recorded and posted to the LMS for those unable to attend.
Extension: Students who need enrichment will be able to explore electrical energy simulations. The teacher will provide a list of extra activities that can be completed by studnets who want to learn more. Studnets will be able to explore the PHET simulations to deepen their understanding of electrical energy.
