This is the earliest known work by Sarah Thorp Heald. It is from 1903, one year before going to Corcoran Art School. In this work, she is unmarried, so it is signed S.E. Thorp, instead of S.E. Heald, which we see after her marriage in 1909.
This is a photo of the Thorp cabin, shown from a slightly different angle than the painting. The date that this photo was taken is unknown, but we can theorize that it was taken a bit before 1903 because the tree in the photo seems a little smaller than the tree in the painting. The painting also shows decorations around the Cabin that are not present in the photo.
