cAMP signalling in Mycobacteria

cAMP signalling in mycobacteria

Mycobacteria are endowed with a number of genes involved in cyclic AMP metabolism. Beginning with bioinformatic analysis, we have characterized a number of novel genes in mycobacteria, including adenylyl cyclases, phosphodiesterases and cyclic nucleotide binding proteins. Of importance is the identification for the first time of a cAMP-regulated protein acyl transferase encoded in Mycobacterial genomes and substrates for this unique regulatory enzyme. Moonlighting tasks of a cAMP phosphodiesterase has also been studied extensively, as has a cAMP-binding universal stress protein. These students have been coupled with strucural elucidation of these proteins working with collaborators in India and around the world.
