FOOD IN SAMOTHRACE

KAMARIOTISSA - Three Mini-markets, two butcher shops and two fishmongers. There is also a diary, and a few bakeries and patisseries, various cafes and restaurants. There are also a few seasonal souvenir shops that sell local produce. .

THERMA - One Minimarket and one small grocery shop, one bakery, patisseries, and several cafes and restaurants. There are a couple of seasonal souvenir shops that sell local produce as well. There is also a street market opposite the Thermal Baths during the summer months.

THERMA CAMPING - One mini-market, which specialises in local produce, and a cafe.

CHORA - Two small corner shops, a bakery, patisseries, and several cafes and restaurants. There are also a few seasonal souvenir shops,

OTHER VILLAGES have small corner shops or market stalls, and various cafes and restaurants.

TYPES OF ESTABLISHMENTS

  • Kafeneios (36 establishments in 2017)

These are coffee shops, and are used a lot by the locals. Locals tend to cook their meals at home, and then socialise in the Kafeneios. Kafeneios tend to stay open year round.

  • Taverns/Restaurants (38 establishments in 2017)

Taverns are similar to Kafeneios, but also serve alcohol. Many taverns and restaurants tend to close in the winter months. For example, only one restaurant stays open in Therma during the winter (The Fengari)

  • Bars and Beach Bars (6 establishments in 2017)

Bars tend to cater to tourists, and close in the off-season.

  • Bakeries ( 5 establishments in 2017)

  • Fast Food (3 establishments in 2017)

Some restaurants also have a counter where customers can buy 'food to go' such as burgers and souvlaki.

KAMARIOTISSA - AGGELIKI BAKERY

This is Vaxevanis Savvas' Bakery in Kamariotissa, called "Aggeliki".

Besides really tasty traditional Greek pastries and tarts, Savvas Vaxevanis makes excellent fruit jams and preserves, which are made entirely from local fruits.

Even the flour he uses for the local sweets is grown by himself on his own land.

KAMARIOTISSA - SALAMIS BAKERY

Try the cheese pie, the spinach pie, the milk pie (galatopita), or the traditional koulouri.

This bakery specialises in patisserie type baked goods,and Chaslama, the traditional sweet of the island

CHORA

Chora - Stathmos Taverna

The Stathmos Taverna in Chora has been open since 1967.

The premises were badly damaged in the storms of September 2017, but have since been refurbished.

The cafe re-opened in January 2018.

Chora - Papadosiakos Bakery

Papadosiakos Bakery is one of the island's oldest businesses, having first opened its doors in 1853.


The bakery specialises in local breads.
