Worm of Regret is a grotesque subterranean creature born from the psychic remnants of collective guilt. Its gnarled body is covered in blister-like pits, clustered lesions, and warped folds of flesh, while its enormous mouth is surrounded by twisting tendrils that suggest something once reaching for redemption — now reduced to nothing but hunger.
The creature slithers through the molten wastes of a forsaken underworld, feeding on memory, remorse, and the emotional decay left behind by fallen civilizations.
This project gave me the opportunity to explore a much more disturbing side of creature design. Rather than creating a creature around conventional anatomy, I wanted to build something that felt parasitic, mutated, and physically uncomfortable to look at. The body is built around a sinewy muscular foundation, with layers of asymmetrical growths, ulcerous ridges, and clustered abnormalities disrupting the surface.
A major focus was creating a strong sense of weight, tension, and surface texture. I wanted the creature's posture to feel like it was caught somewhere between pain and prayer, creating an unsettling contrast between its physical form and the way it holds itself.
I sculpted the creature entirely in ZBrush, experimenting with forms inspired by organic decay, coral formations, fungal growth, and the irregularity of real biological structures. Instead of treating the surface details as simple decoration, I used them to help define the underlying anatomy and make the creature feel tactile and alive.
The visual direction was heavily influenced by the creature design and atmosphere found in FromSoftware's games and Capcom's Resident Evil series. I wanted to capture that same combination of grotesque biological detail, surreal mutation, and oppressive horror while developing a creature design of my own.
The final piece was rendered in Blender's Cycles, with lighting designed to evoke an ancient, blood-filled lair illuminated primarily by fire and torchlight. The dark environment and dramatic lighting help bring out the uneven surface of the sculpt while reinforcing the creature's nightmarish presence.

Worm of Regret was an opportunity to step away from traditional creature anatomy and focus entirely on creating something strange, disturbing, and memorable. It pushed me to think about how silhouette, anatomy, texture, and lighting can work together to make a creature feel genuinely unnatural.
P.S I have no finished Halo CE, Halo 2, and Halo 3! So I like this name even more now!
