On the left is where the city "layout" was at for a blocking of cameras for the 3D animatic. On the right is where Eli and I got the city to over the weekend. I was in charge of the right most area aka the slums. I made 4 different tiles that I could through around to serve as the buildings for the slums. We created this using a blueprinting system so that we can create different levels and throw in the different assets of the town easily, as well as edit parts of it easily! With this I could work on the slums and Eli could create the town, while working in different levels our edits go through everything!
With the re work of the city, we had to re work some of our old shots we were setting up. In this I have been working on parts of our 3D animatic. With Rob being in charge of what shots are needed, I have been relying on him for what I should be working on!
Something I missed when I was doing the cameras was the classic 180 degree rule! Luckily Rob and Eli both told me to fix it! As well as that Rooster going to the shop should be going Right to Left, and the return trip home is then Left to right. With this I was thinking through the cameras more than I usually do, as well as trying to get that continous feeling of movement.
Finally I was doing this shot first, and with this was constantly thinking about the return home and how to do reverse shots. In this I felt that both sequences that deal with the city the most, are now feeling grounded and more establishing of the path that Rooster takes through it. With this implication that much more is going on that what we see of Rooster, his life, and his small adventure.
As I was saying above, for Rooster's run home I was primarily concercered with making sure that Rooster is moving from Left to Right in the camera's view. Then I was also trying to set up reverse shots of his sneak into the city. With this the viewers will recognize areas, as well as mentally taking the notes of seeing more. In this the city will start to feel more recognizable on the return through it.
It is definatly more work than you would think to block out the movement of a character through a city. As well is proving why we needed to shrink the city by a large amount. I am teleporting Rooster at least two seperate times through some larger portions of the city so that it is not just a huge running sequence. In this at least we can see from our shots now what we will need to model.
I was also trying to plan out some of the shots for the future models and future creation of the city. As we are still in the blocking stage of the city, I was trying to block a few shots with the sky bridges, factories, the bakery, the fance, etc. In this once we are able to start modeling and getting our assets into the scene. We will literally see it come to life!
This is a much shorter sequence that Rob told me we were missing! I had some fun with this, being that it is so much shorter I was able to do a very small about of animation in the engine. This was my first time making a rig as well animating in the engine live. It was pretty fun but also made me see the vast differences between Maya and unreal!
Trying for the frame within a frame technique for this sequence, where we start with the window as the frame. We then pan over to Puffin finding and eating the Muffin, using the door frame as the next frame within a frame.
The final sequence I was asked to work on this week was the water tower getting attacked by the fire fighter and then coming to a fall. This is a bigger scene to block out due to how many moving objects are in the scene. I have been trying my best to make the firefighters seen on the screen to feel consistent across all the different cameras as well as different sequences. I also had to reimport the water tower asset to the new water tower asset. Because our team cannot listen to you need to reimport. As well has to add in the water towers interior scene to the tower itself. As my team decided we should keep those assets separate? Then I could use this water tower for the scene of rooster hiding inside of it, as well as the objects inside like the oven. I was thinking this was gonna be my final work for the week so I took more time to get some animations happening on the characters an objects so that it is all more readable.
As usual when I showed up to class the team was in the same place I left it at. With no progress updates to show, and even more usual. Asking me to help them with things they were not able to complete. So I was asked to take on the Puffin and Rooster reunion scene.
Which is a pretty large scene of showing Puffin coming into the slums, and her reaction to the destruction of Rooster's home. Then Puffin finds Rooster in the rubble, hiding in his old oven. Then being shown the muffin turning into a cupcake and being offered to him.
