Year-End Reflection
05.18.2022
Describe at least two of the most important lessons you learned from our class this year.
One important lesson I learned from this class this year is the importance of professionalism. I learned that in order to look professional and impress others, one must consider how they dress, speak, and act. Another important lesson I learned is that acknowledgement is KEY. People have a stronger sense of purpose when they are acknowledged. If they are not acknowledge, these same people can feel detached and confused about their worth.
What was your most memorable or happiest experiences from our class?
My most happiest experience from our class this year was when Mr. Chong surprised us with the Thanksgiving letters. It filled me with joy reading the positive things that my classmates had wrote about me as well as writing positive things about my classmates. It was pretty memorable for me as I remember being shocked since we had no idea Mr. Chong planned this from the very beginning.
If I had to redo my sophomore year, what would I do differently?
If I had to redo my sophomore year, the things I would do differently include joining more school clubs and activities, trying harder in my classes, and avoid being shy from the very beginning. This year, I wished I had joined more school clubs. I feel that my year would have consisted of many fun memories if I had joined some clubs. Another thing I wish I could have done was do my best in class. Although my grades are good enough, I know I could have done better in my classes. Lastly, I wish that I was more outgoing since the beginning of the school year. Ever since the middle of the school year, I noticed how much different I am compared to when I first entered sophomore year. I feel that if I had this outgoing personality since the very beginning, it would have enabled me to join my desired clubs and activities as well as make friends with the people I wish to be friends with.
Rate your effort for our class (5 being the highest to 1 being the lowest) and describe your one challenge and one success during this school year.
I would rate my effort a good 4. After being sequestered for so long, socializing with people in real life was a challenge this school year. It took some time for me to adapt back to way things were before the pandemic, but I gradually got used to it. My success would be achieving my aim of maintaining good grades and staying on task in all of my studies.
Classroom Environment Reflection
04.08.22
I truly feel that out of all of my classes, this class is where I find the most comfort. I like how everyone has the opportunity to speak and say whatever is on our mind. Our discussions each class has made a huge impact on my public speaking skills, as I can see improvement, compared to my speaking skills before I enrolled in this course. My classmates and I all respect each other and our time together in this class makes me look forward to working with them in the next few school years.
Our learning climate this school year is quite sad, but that is not the class's fault at all. If it weren't for this pandemic we are currently experiencing, I believe this class would have gotten more fun, hands-on learning opportunities such as assisting at the Japan Autumn festival and the Be a Tourist field trip. Although we weren't able to have those experiences, I believe the current learning climate that we have in class now is just right. Our discussions for each topic enables me to engage and fully understand the lesson more and I enjoy that.
What?
What is the freshmen recruitment all about?
What was your role?
How did you prepare for this?
The freshmen recruitment is a presentation where we promote and convince freshmen to enroll in a GCC course. In this case, my classmates and I were promoting our GCC Hospitality class. My role during the presentation was being the presenter. I prepared for this presentation by practicing with my team the week before the presentation.
So what?
What was the outcome of your presentations?
Describe the audience's responses.
How did you feel after you presented? How do you feel about your public speaking skills?
What did you learned about marketing and promoting our program?
What were the challenges in recruiting freshmen?
I am quite unsure about the outcome of our presentations. Judging the reactions of the freshmen, many of them seemed to appear uninterested. Once the presentation was over and it was time for questions, the freshmen were silent. I felt a little disappointed as their silence and lack of questions made me feel as if I did not do well. Although the freshmen did not display much reaction, I feel that my public speaking skills have definitely improved compared to the last public presentation I had which was in the 8th grade. One thing I learned about marketing and promoting our program is that engaging with the audience is best so that you can capture and keep the audience's attention throughout the presentation. That was also one of the challenges in recruiting freshmen. It was difficult to have them engage with us as they seem to be shy.
Now what?
If you were to re-do this, what would you do differently?
What changes would you make?
How do you ensure a successful presentation?
If I were to re-do this, something I would do differently is to interact with the audience more. The only changes I would make is to make the slide presentation more eye-catching. I believe my team and I did an amazing job presenting despite the limited time we had to prepare. I would ensure a successful presentation with practice, great knowledge about the topic that is presented, and interaction with the audience.
