Mr. Ambros Constantino Presentation
05.17.2022
On Tuesday, May 17, Mr. Ambros came to our class to teach us about preparing for our future and career as well as how to perform CPR. He talked about his life and how he ended up with a career where he makes 6 figures. I learned that certificates and finding good credentials to affiliate with are good to have grand recognition. When trying to impress others, I learned that professionalism and appearances play a huge role in this.
What surprised me the most was Mr. Ambros's career journey. Initially, he wanted to be an engineer, and he hated math. He worked many jobs while in college to avoid being a'starving college student.' In the end, he did not achieve his objective of doing his ideal career, but rather a well-paying six-figure employment that allowed him to buy a house without worrying about money.
Mr. Hank Rice Presentation
05.13.2022
On Friday, May 13, Mr. Rice came to our class to teach us about Japanese culture and hospitality as well as a magic trick. With his presentation, I was able to learn many things about Japanese service. I learned that Japanese people consider how their actions/ attitudes affect everyone else. This ties in with hospitality as it is important to understand customers. I also learned that social status is important Japan. Some factors that can determine your status include birthplace, school, family name, and age. One of the Japanese services I learned about was the host club. Lastly, I learned how to do the tearing newspaper magic trick.
I was surprised when I found out the reason as to why suicide rates in Japan are very high. Apparently, its high level is due to the pressure from all of the strict rules in Japan. Another thing I was surprise about was that social status is still important in today's society.
Tie a Tie
12.06.2021
On Monday, December 6, Mr. Chong taught us how to tie a tie. He taught us two methods. The regular method, and the double-knot method. Although both methods were equally difficult for me, they were both fun to try and I was happy I was able to do both of them at the end... with a little assistance from Mr. Chong. It was a fun and new experience and I am glad we were able to learn how to tie a tie.
Telephone Skills
11.24.2021
On Friday, November 24, we learned how to properly answer the phone in the business industry. I learned to answer the phone in this order: greeting, identify organization, identify self, offer assistance. I also learned about the saying "let me hear you smile," which means when you smile while answering the phone, the other party can hear your gratitude from the other side of the phone. Each of us had the opportunity to practice calling using the phones in Mr. Chong's classroom. It was fun and a great experience. In the next class session, we also had the opportunity to call some of the different hotels on Guam and compare each of their customer services. In the end, Westin had the best service.
Ms. Oliveros's Presentation
10.20.2021
I learned so much useful information from Ms. Oliveros's presentation. I learned what CTE stands for, Career Technical Education. I also learned about how I can earn a Certificate of Mastery and Completion. For Certificate of Mastery, you need at least 180 hours of Work Experience, which is also equivalent to 1 elective credit. For Certificate of Completion, you do not need any WE hours. Another thing I learned which stood out to me the most was the many opportunities provided by GCC to earn a college degree. These opportunities consist of these programs: DCAPS, Dual Enrollment, Reach for College, and the CLYMER Program.
I was very pleased with the stuff we were introduced to during the presentation. Many of the things I have learned can help me plan what I want to do for the rest of my high school years and for after I graduate, which makes me content. I also had a lot of fun during the presentation. It was entertaining listening to Ms. Oliveros talk about her school and college life. Ms. Oliveros was very engaging with our class and that was something I enjoyed. I would have probably been bored if she did not have that energy with her at all, and so it was a pleasure that she was our presenter. This was my first time meeting Ms. Oliveros and it was an overall a great experience.
