Professional Dress Day
01. 16. 2024
Professional dress day is a day we practice dressing up in professional attire. We do this practice in order to get used to the idea of dressing professionally for a special event or a job interview.
Dressing up in formal attire made me feel very professional. Because I was in formal attire, it also made me feel good that I was dressed up. I'd also have to admit, but it did feel uncomfortable. Because we are in Guam, I did feel pretty hot. I feel like it would have been better if I was in a better setting with closed hallways and more air conditioners. I think that would boost my willpower to dress more professional.
Ms. Hope's Presentation
11. 14. 2023
Ms. Hope's presentation made me have a better understanding of the hiring process and how the HR department works. I also learned about the benefits that are offered to Hilton employees such as 20% off discount for rooms as an employee and friends and family. Hilton's interviews are based on availability of the manager, and they are willing to work around employee's schedules. Another thing I learned is that each department has their own supervisors and managers.
I enjoyed Ms. Hope's presentation. Although her nervousness was visible, she did amazing job teaching us about the Hr department and the hiring process. She spoke clear and answered our questions in a respectful manner. I enjoyed her presence and the energy she brought in the room. She also gave us Hilton applications to get an idea of how they look like/ what they require. Overall, I enjoyed Ms. Hope's presentation.
Ms. Oliveros's Presentation
11. 16. 2023
On Thursday, our CTE counselor, Ms. Oliveros came to present to the GCC tourism and prostart classes. It was actually her third time presenting to us. I was able to refresh my knowledge regarding things about college and the programs that are available currently and during college after I graduate high school. CLYMER, dual enrollment, and DECAPS are some of the programs. We also went over the various scholarships that we can use. Other than that, Ms. Oliveros also went over the FAFSA and how this year's FAFSA application will be available by Dec. 31.
Dr. Betances's Presentation
10. 06. 2023
In Dr. B's presentation about how to begin a speech, I was able to learn many things. I learned that it is best to begin a speech with a shocking fact, one that will spark the audience's attention. The examples he gave were very effective. I also learned many life lessons that was taught throughout his speech. His quotes "if you can't read, you can't lead" and "in it for the outcome, not the income" stood out to me the most.
I enjoyed Dr. B's presentation. Although I was a bit intimidated by him in the beginning as he has quite the demeanor, he ended up being a really nice person. I do not think I have ever met anyone like Dr. B. His public speaking skills are very superior. I am grateful he was able to present to our class.
How to Start a Speech
10. 04. 2023
After watching the video, I learned the 3 best ways to start a speech. The third best way to start a speech is to ask a question. The second best way is to state a shocking fact; one that will catch the audience's interest. Finally, the best way to start a speech is to tell a relatable story.
I think the video was alright. I do not 100% agree with the speaker. I think it is important to introduce yourself and your topic before beginning a speech. I did enjoy the funny jokes he made, though.
