Project profile
The product is a digital learning resource for students and teachers, as well as a literacy resource, student-centered learning media based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), or a tool to measure English level proficiency in Europe, and it employs Reading for Emotion (RFE), a tool developed by Ania Lian, (2017), to assist students in becoming better (academic) readers and writers by analyzing and manipulating text emotions. Digital learning resource is created by researchers using technology. This product is designed to help students improve their language skills in accordance with rhizomatic learning, which provides learning that can be accessed anywhere and at any time. Students can expand their knowledge as needed, especially in the area of reading.
Teaching and learning reading is not as simple as people imagine. Researchers agree that reading is a language-based skill (Birsh & Carreker, 2018). However, Language too often follows the old paradigms focusing in grammar and vocabulary (Lian A.B., 2022). Conseqeuntly, a new pedagogy infrastructure is needed, as stated by Sudimantara, (2021), proves the development of a new pedagogy where the process begins with the right side of the brain as the foundation by activating the nonverbal components of language such as intonation, rhythm, movement, emotion, and aesthetics. Also, combining with the multisensorial learning approach that enable students to use multi senses on their body to be more engage in the learning process. Since people are multisensory and process information in a multisensory manner (Lian A.B., 2020).
Researchers profile
The researcher is a student at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon, Indonesia. She is interested in pedagogy, neuroscience, and increasing literacy. As proven by the result of International assessment such as EPI, PISA, and TIMSS, the level of literacy skills of Indonesian students are still at the low level. In the field of reading, PISA (a test measures a 15-year-old students' reading, mathematics, and science skills) 2018 showed the reading score of Indonesian students is the lowest score Indonesia has had since the year of 2000. This is a genuine issue confronting Indonesia, and it must be addressed and resolved collaboratively. Researchers use cutting-edge technology to create digital learning resources that serve as a setting for improving literacy skills. Researchers studied several books/e-books, news articles, journals, websites, and podcasts before beginning this project to better understand the issue. Two supervisors are supported the process of this research. The first one is Wakhid Nashrudin, Ph.D., a top doctorate graduate from Charles Darwin University, Australia. The second one is Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., a top doctorate graduate from Charles Darwin University, Australia.
