Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR) was first published in 2001. CEFR is the international standard of foreign language education. The CEFR was developed to promote critical reflection on various aspects of language education, such as curricula, syllabuses, textbooks, and examinations, as well as to promote common understanding across the education systems of Council of Europe member states (EALTA, 2022).
The CEFR consists of six levels: A1 and A2 (basic user), B1 and B2 (independent user), C1 and C2 (proficient user). It focuses on describing what learners can achieve at various proficiency levels by introducing 'can do' statements (Kaowiwattanakul, 2021). Taking a well-designed, standardized test is the best way to determine your CEFR level. In English, the EF SET is the best option because it is free online and the first CEFR-aligned test.
