Award for Community Service
Stood outside of Staples store for 5+ hours each day for a week. Collected school supplies for the foster children of Bloomfield. I was able to collect a collection of notebooks, writing utensils, tools such as calculators and protractors, as well as some glue sticks. Overall, the process of obtaining these school supplies taught me how communicate as well as some fundraising techquieces which have helped me thrughout my life. This expirence also taught me about being passionate and taking the extra step.Bronze Award (Girls Scouts)
The Bronze Award for girls scouts is achieved when a scout is able to pull together 20 community service hours focused on a specific topic. My troop focused on donating school supplies to foster children. We created plans on how we were going to achieve the goal that we set. We made phone calls at multiple places and started to stand and put boxes at various locations in our town. Altogether we exceeded our goal, and worked for more then 20 hours. Getting this award taught me about commitment, passion, as well as drive.Silver Award (Girl Scouts)
The Silver Award for girl scouts is achieved when a girl scout is able to gather 50 community service hours focused on a specific topic. Due to my switch in schools I had to leave my troop, I became a singular girl scout. This was the time when covid was in full swing. I did not want to miss my opportunity to help out. During this time there were many campaigns and a heavy focus on stereotypes and racial profiling due to George Floyd. I partnered with a female (mentorship) organization, Etrê. I was able to interview some of my friends as well as women in various professions. I then partnered with the organizations website creator and created a section of their website covering various aspects of stereotyping. When achieving this award I learned about adversity and being adaptive.Photography Award
I acquired this award by submitting my photography into a competition. I submitted a piece which has my fingers holding a broken pomegranate, the piece is called "Breaking Through the Surface". My picture was able to be selected and was then framed and displayed at a performing arts center in New Jersey called SOPAC in South Orange. Having my photography displayed allowed me to get exposure for my artwork, but also allows me to learn the process of getting your art submitted and sending it in for consideration. Patience and confidence were two skills I learned.
