Program Requirements by Age
Ages 6-10
(includes Mighty Monkeys and the Elementary Training & Comp Teams)
Will be taught how to tie their figure eight knot with a fisherman’s stopper knot for rope climbing.
Will be taught proper climbing & bouldering etiquette including where to find a down-climb and how to fall
Will not be taught how to belay
All offerings for this age group will have a 3:1 athlete-to-coach ratio and be 90 minutes long
Ages 10-13
(includes Super Senders and the Pre-Teen Training & Comp Teams)
Must know how to tie their figure eight knot with a fisherman’s stopper knot for rope climbing.
Will be taught how to top-rope belay and expected to do so during practices with coach supervision. Climbers must pass a top-rope belay test with a supervisor before belaying without back-up.
Climbers in this age group are not allowed to belay outside of practice.
Our Training & Comp Team athletes in this age group will be taught the basics of sport (or lead) climbing & belaying but will only be allowed to mock lead during practices.
All offerings for this age group will have a 6:1 athlete-to-coach ratio and be 2 hours long.
Ages 13-17
(includes High School Club and the Teen Training & Comp Teams)
Must know how to tie their figure eight knot with a fisherman’s stopper knot for rope climbing.
Must know how to top-rope belay and expected to do so during practices with coach supervision. Climbers must pass a top-rope belay test with a supervisor before belaying without back-up.
Climbers 14+ are allowed to belay (both top rope & lead) & lead climb outside of practice.
Our Training & Comp Team athletes in this age group will be taught how to sport (or lead) climb & belay. They will be expected to sport climb & belay during practices. Climbers must pass a sport climbing test with a supervisor before being allowed to during practice.
All offerings for this age group will have a 6:1 athlete-to-coach ratio and be at least 2 hours long. Comp Team may offer a 3 hour practice.
