January for the Sport/Speed (Rope) Season, Feb-May (mid-season only as space allows; not necessary for active Comp Team athletes)

Coaches are paying particular attention to an athlete's ability to apply climbing technique to various routes & boulder problems. Coaches will take into consideration an athlete's physical ability, mental toughness, coachability (effort and attitude during practice), lead climbing and belaying proficiency (belaying/knot tying) and age when considering athlete placement.
For more information please contact your gym's Head Coach.
All climbers, regardless of prior participation, are required to tryout for their spot on the team as part of the August tryouts. The only exception to this is athletes who have received a “bye” letter stating otherwise.
A “bye” will be issued to athletes who have placed top 10 at Divisionals for Bouldering, Sport, OR Speed during the previous season.
If your athlete receives a letter they will not be required to try out at the upcoming tryout. While they are not required to try out, they are encouraged to lend a hand and encourage their soon-to-be teammates.
