Build your own PC
I have added a DAC to my HTPC system.
What is a DAC
The ARCAM irDAC-II connects to my PC using an USB asynchronous connection and is capable the following speeds USB: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz, 384kHz
I also needed to be able to stream using my smartphone. A bluetooth connection is also possible. Tested the bluetooth connection with my iphone 5s and that worked fine.
The ARCAM irDAC-II uses the ESS ES9016K2M DAC which has Bit Depth of 16-bit, 24-bit.
The SABRE32 Ultra audio DAC series with ESS patented 32-bit HyperstreamTM DAC architecture
Time Domain Jitter Eliminator which delivers music free from clock jitter common in digital audio systems.
No online review can do justice to a DAC listening experience. This is something you have to listen to yourself using some of your favourite tracks and judge for yourself on the result. My experience of the irDAC-II is indeed very pleasant. The output clarity is excellent.
The irDAC-II connects to my PC using a USB cable (supplied). You just need to install the drivers. I also updated the firmware to the latest offering.
You will find all you need here. Check out my video which shows the driver and firmware update and Windows 10 usage.
