Has to be included, right? These are the things that'll make class go a little bit smoother when we're all on the same page.
As per district policy, students will be dropped if they miss class in the first week. Just logging in does not count as attendance. You need to submit assignments on time. Please be aware that missing a total of two weeks of class throughout the semester (that is, not submitting any work for two weeks) without notifying me may result in you being dropped from the course.
Additionally, ENGL B1A is a class that can be particularly difficult to get into and is likely to have a full waitlist.
Because of this, the attendance policy is as follows:
First Day Drops: Students who do not submit the first assignment are considered “absent” on the first day of class and may be dropped if there is a waitlist.
Weeks 1-2 Drops: Students who miss any classes or do not complete assignments in the first two weeks may be dropped from the course if there is an active waitlist.
Allowed Absences: Students may be withdrawn from the class once they have accumulated two weeks’ worth missed assignments.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Instructors are allowed to withdraw students after the first two weeks, but we are not responsible for doing so. Students who stop attending class but do not take care of withdrawing themselves risk earning an “F” in their class.
This is a discussion-based class; therefore, I urge you to take advantage of vigorous participation in our course! The more you share and respond to your peers, the more you will take away from this course. In order to earn participation credit, abide by the following contributing to discussions! I know some of you may be shy, but this is a safe space to practice sharing your thoughts. You don’t have to be “right.” You just have to help the conversation move by:
Asking questions.
Answering questions.
Responding to peers.
I will work hard to give you the tools and guidance to come to be prepared to work and learn. I will assess this via your participation in class discussion and activities, which will usually be measured by whether or not you have completed the required work to class and how well you participate in discussion posts and Flipgrids. All of us in this class—you, me, your peers—have a responsibility to create an online environment where we can all learn from each other. I expect everyone to participate so that we can all benefit from the insights and experiences that each person brings!
