Goal:

RU Safe? helps Rutgers University students connect with their guardians and reach out to the authorities in any case of an emergency.

Purpose:

RU Safe? focuses on connecting Rutgers University students with their parents or guardians in emergency situations because there is often no easy way for parents to make sure their child is safe, and more importantly, no way for them to find out if their child is in danger. We want to create an application dedicated to providing instant and reliable information so students and families can have relief in the case of an emergency.

User:

The target user is any Rutgers University student living on campus, off campus, or commuting. Their emergency contacts, family members, and friends will be secondary users.

Tasks:

• Students can access any campus resources (RUPD, Medical Services, Transportation Services, Fire Emergency, Weather Emergency, Public Safety, etc.) and send their location or health information in emergency situations
• The “Find My Contacts” allows a user to see their contacts locations (if shared mutually) on a map
• The “Record” feature allows a user to capture photos, videos, or audio recordings in the case of an emergency
• The “Timer” feature allows a user to set their travel path and view their journey on a map, while giving updates to their emergency contact for extra safety

Limitations:

• This application is only available to Rutgers University students
• RU Safe? is dependent on an agreement with Rutgers University in order to function.
• The user’s emergency contacts need to download the application in order to access the application’s unique features.
