Overall the feedback for our hi-fidelity prototype was positive, the reviewers found our app easy to use and complemented our aesthetics. One significant issue was our emergency call button (the exclamation point on the right side of the top menu), many reviewers were either confused about its purpose or felt that it was not prominent enough. Other problems identified mostly had to do with the limitations of our prototype, functions that we expect to work in the final product were static in the prototype which confused users in several areas of our app. However, many of these instances will be addressed in future versions of our product which will incorporate further clarifications and functionality.
- Emergency exclamation point is not as big/bold and it doesn’t stand out to users (Visibility).
- The Profile Screen prompts the user to edit things instead of displaying current settings.
- Some users were unclear on what the exclamation mark does.
- Lacks instruction
- Timer Page was confusing (Aesthetics)
Reasons Why These Are Problems:
- Because the current color does not catch users’ attention they might miss out on one of the primary features of our application.
- Because with current screen the edit options the user is unable to view their current profile.
- This is a significant problem because it deals with one of the primary features of our app, if the user is unsure of what the exclamation point does then they will not be able to use our app effectively. We need to make sure that the function of this button is clear.
- Lack of Instructions can cause confusion throughout the application. User can perceive some options to be something else which can hinder the premise of the application.
- Right now (because it is still a prototype), the options are fairly static which can confuse users. They currently can’t set their locations and trigger a functional timer.
List of Potential Solutions:
- Make the exclamation point bolder, add a label, or change the color
- Place one edit button on the page, when clicked all options become customizable
- Change the background color of the exclamation mark so that our primary feature of the app stands out. We can also add animation in the exclamation mark (visual weight) which can also draw more attention to this feature. Additionally, on the emergency call menu (choose police or ambulance) we can put a label at the top that says “Emergency Calls” which will aid users’ recognition of our primary feature screen.
- We can implement some brief instructions one some of the more complicated screens that explain more about what the page does.
- Add a go button and possibly make the timer count down?
