Engaging Families

This is one of several themes that have emerged from the group for further study and exploration since launching the network in early 2020. Scroll down for resources from '20-'22.

Land-Based Family Engagement

Engaging families emerged as an essential element of the Rural Learning Collaborative work in the spring of 2020. Since then the group has focused on diving into and trying on the vast resources from Learning in Places. We encourage you to explore the frameworks and links below as a great place to start with this generous resources. There are resources for teachers to use with families and also resources families could use on their own. The frameworks provide reflection opportunities for all of us to learn more about our own relationship with the land around us and how our communities engage with it past, present, and future.

These are lessons that can be done with or without participating classroom teachers. They can be shared with families and are available in Spanish and Mandarin. This link will take you to the main page for the English versions. You can navigate to other languages using the toolbar on the right once you are on the site.

It includes questions to use in personal and institutional reflection on the varying approaches to engage and collaborate with families and communities. It was used in the January 2021 RLC Session.
