When can I get the Mercedes?
When you attain the rank of Sergeant within RTU
If I am a Road Traffic Officer, can I still carry out normal police duties?
Yes. You are not constrained purely to your primary duties as a traffic officer and are still expected to carry out regular policing duties, you do however need to prioritise your traffic duties where practicable.
Joining RTU
How do I become a Road Traffic Officer?
Apply on the careers page. See Joining The Division for more information.
Do I need to be a certain rank to join RTU?
Anybody at or above the rank of Officer may apply.
Do I need a taser to become RTU?
No. However, every officer is advised to attain your taser certification as soon as possible.
Do I need observation reports to join RTU?
Observation reports are not strictly required but they are considered during your command review. If your record is stained with any infractions, you should obtain some observation reports prior to applying to demonstrate an improvement.
What are command reviews and when are they completed?
Command reviews are the stage in your application in which you are vetted by a member of Traffic Command to ensure you are suitable to proceed with your application. They are completed at stages 3 and 5 of your application and should not take any longer than a day to be completed
Can I transfer to the Road Traffic Unit?
No.
Can I be reinstated to the Road Traffic Unit?
Yes. You will typically be considered eligible for reinstatement if:
You resigned from traffic less than 180 days ago
You have no recent infractions
You were not demoted from RTU
Meeting these criteria does not mean you are guaranteed to be reinstated and every case is judged individually. These criteria may be bypassed by the Head of Operations Services if he/she sees fit. See Recruitment Policy for more information.
Can I still join TFU whilst in the Road Traffic Unit?
Yes!
Why was my Road Traffic Unit application rejected?
Your application could have been rejected for any number of reasons, this will have been explicitly stated by whomever marked that stage of your application. Some reasons your application may have been rejected are:
You failed your stage 4 assessment
During a command review you were found to have been ineligible to proceed
You no longer meet the rank requirement (Officer)
How do I get feedback on a stage or application, or I have questions?
You are able to view who assessed each stage of your application. Where you do fail a stage, written feedback will be provided in "Assessor Comments" at the bottom. If you would like any further feedback or clarification, you should open an inbox with whoever assessed your stage or create a helpdesk ticket directed to RTU.
What if I don’t agree with how a stage or application was marked?
If you wish to dispute the assessment of a stage, create a helpdesk ticket directed towards RTU
How do I get promoted?
To receive a promotion you must apply for it on the careers page. This application will then be assessed by a member of Traffic Command. Prior to applying for the next rank, try to obtain positive observation reports to evidence your abilities and demonstrate that you are ready to take on the next rank.
Command and Trainers
What do Road Traffic Trainers do?
Road Traffic Trainers are given extra duties and responsibilities within the division including attending practical stages, marking RTU applications, organising in-game operations, attending training sessions and generally setting a high standard of performance on behalf of our division. They are given access to a Discord channel to be able to communicate and have the ability to voice their ideas for how to move the division forward.
How do I become a Road Traffic Trainer?
You may apply on the careers page once ranked Senior Officer or above. You must be a Traffic Officer prior to applying, obviously.
How does the Road Traffic Unit command structure work?
The Traffic Command team is divided into two smaller teams, Quality Assurance (QA) and Recruitment. Each team is managed by a Lieutenant and staffed by typically no more than two Staff Sergeants. The Head of Traffic oversees both teams and the division in its entirety. See 2 - Divisional Structure for more information about our command team.
Policies
How do internal disciplinaries work in the Road Traffic Unit?
Internal Disciplinary procedures are managed by the Quality Assurance team and are divided into two categories: Conventional and Observation Reports.
Conventional Disciplinaries are for performance-related matters are are graded 4, 3, and 2 based on severity.
Observation Report disciplinaries are for observation report quality and/or quantity.
Where a situation, be it performance or observation reports, has been put through the respective disciplinary process, or is felt to be of great severity, it will be actioned by grade 1 adverse action.
Internal Disciplinary action is just that, internal. It works alongside internal affairs and does not replace it. Internal Disciplinary action will be taken and recorded internally for traffic-related matters or gross incompetence/bad character and internal affairs complaints will also be created for other policy violations.
See 7 - Disciplinary Actions for more information.
Can internal disciplinaries be used against me in my next application for a promotion?
Internal disciplinary action will not be used against you when applying for a promotion unless it is felt to be of great relevance. As internal disciplinaries are stored for longer than infractions, just because your internal action is active does not mean to say it would be used against you in your application. Internal disciplinaries will certainly be considered when applying for internal postings such as Traffic Trainer.
Is there an activity requirement?
No
Campaigns
What are campaigns?
Traffic campaigns are division-wide and sometimes force-wide initiatives developed by the Traffic Command team that officers can participate in in-game. Campaigns will usually highlight a certain law, laws or area(s) to focus on and participation will be in the form of enforcing that law specifically or doing that thing. An example would be a reckless driving campaign and to participate you would need to prioritise 12.12 enforcement and add a certain hashtag to your tickets and jail sentences.
When are campaigns run?
There is no specified time as to when campaigns are run, although multiple will be run every year.
Who runs campaigns?
Campaigns are run by the Trainer and Staff Sergeant in the Operations Team
