In what is referred to as 'the Beginning', the Patrons of what would become RPGverse mysteriously and spontaneously popped into existence. After millennia of doing nothing but argue among themselves, the Patron of the Universe decided it'd be great for them all to work on a group project - to pass the time, he said, but secretly intended it to be a team-building exercise.
The start of RPGverse's inhabitants' lives was not smooth sailing. Huma were created, then the Viël, Lethan, Raera and finally the Lyiss. Each race's Patrons refused to confer and discuss what directions they were going, so the groups of people now plopped onto the continent were completely unbalanced. Viël were a force to be reckoned with, destroying the Huma and Lyiss they came across. The Patron of the Universe wasn't too happy with this. He smacked the Patron of Viël upside the head and made the god fix the monster of a race he'd made.
The next thousand or so years went a lot better. Disagreements were had, minor scuffles occurred, but no war ravaged the lands. The population managed to get a hold on what they were doing, developing agricultural and scientific techniques with little input from the Patrons, seemingly eager to seek out knowledge by themselves. Great mages and warriors rose and fell with the times, passing on what they had learned to those that took their places. A plethora of new skills and spells were created by the more innovative members of society.
Now, the world is trying to escape a plateau of technological growth, which has grown stagnant in the last century. People want to move forward in leaps and bounds like their ancestors did. The Patrons, to encourage their creations, have introduced more 'megafauna' - huge, lumbering monsters (think MMO world bosses) who patrol areas of the continent. A few have been defeated but took entire armies and unsustainable casualties to kill, and have begun to 'respawn' after decades. Tensions have begun to grow between countries as they all participate in an arms race. Who can bring down the most impressive beast?
