You may be thinking "wow, there's legitimate technology in a sky-high fantasy setting such as RPGverse?" And you're right to be skeptical - there isn't. They managed to make skyships but only by pumping a ton of elemental magic through the system, so even those are glorified balloons.
Machinists use a weird form of magic nobody considers to be 'real' magic, which allows them to make contraptions that do things seemingly unassisted. Clocks, compasses and puzzleboxes are the designs of Machinists. They are also responsible for the aforementioned skyships, and many double as weaponsmiths or armorsmiths.
Unfortunately Machinists haven't discovered how to make guns yet. They, like every other 'physical' class, rely on a weapon of some sort to bash things to death. Most of the time their blunt tools do this job perfectly well, but some have been known to re-purpose their sledgehammers or anvils into warhammers. From there it's a simple recipe of hitting while avoiding being hit. With this in mind, Machinists are also credited with the creation of skyship battle and many of the mechanisms found in bombs.
Machinist homes are the most functional to live in; there's usually all sorts of gadgets laying around that have been created to make their lives easier. It's rare to see one without a steady job, and even those without one are eclectic inventors who eventually make their money back. They have a great amount of practical knowledge since they need to know how things work, so Machinists are respected in society and often sought out as someone who knows what they're talking about.
