Training
Position Specific Training
An important part of the Cub Scouting program is the training that is available to help new leaders have a successful and fun-filled program. After an Adult Member has registered and completed the Youth Protection Training (YPT), leaders will need to complete position specific training at https://my.scouting.org.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation – BALOO
This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online prerequisite component in addition to an overnight outdoor camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a pack overnighter.
Youth Protection Training (YPT) & EIM Training
As Adult Members of a youth-serving organization, it is our responsibility to be properly trained and equipped to provide a safe environment for the scouts that we serve. All Cub Scout volunteers are registered Adult Members, who are required to complete a criminal background check (CBC) and Boy Scouts Youth Protection Training (YPT). YPT training is good for two years. You can access this training via the https://my.scouting.org website.
In addition to Boy Scouts YPT training, the Diocese of Austin requires all adult volunteers in ministry to complete Ethics & Integrity in Ministry (EIM) training. If you have previously taken an EIM course in person, you can take the EIM recertification class on-line. Please visit the Diocesan website for details and instructions for online training.
If it is your first time completing EIM training, you must do so in person. Click here for more information about the EIM application process and in-person workshops. Once you have completed the course, please download your certification pdf and forward it to the Committee Chair. This is required of all registered adults for the protection of our scouts.
