2020年は、ロリー・ギャラガーの没後25周年。そしてロリーファンによるこのイベント「ロリー・ギャラガー　トリビュート・フェスティバル in JAPAN」も、日本で開催するようになって10年めという節目の年でした。本来なら過去開催した6回にまさる多くのミュージシャンに参加してもらい、会場に大勢のロリーファンのお客様をお迎えして、盛大なフェスティバルにしたいところでしたが、新型コロナウィルス感染症の拡大で、世界中のライブイベントが未曾有の苦境に陥ってしまいました。

東京では、小規模なライブハウスについて言えば、8月から9月にかけてバンドもお客様も少しずつ戻って来ているようでしたが、まだまだ東京への出入りは難しい、ライブの場に足を運ぶのはためらわれるというロリーファンも多くいらっしゃったはずです。海外の諸都市を見渡せば、感染者数はますます増え続け、ライブイベントなんてとんでもない、再びロックダウン？という状況が続いています。

でも、昨年は台風19号、今年は新型コロナ禍……、2年連続の中止は悲しすぎる。そこで、2020年ロリーフェスへの参加を名乗り出たバンド達と実行委員会は、安全に配慮したフェス開催に向けての話し合いを重ねた結果、ロリーのソウル＆スピリットをお届けしたい一念で、10月10日、オンライン・フェスティバルの開催に挑戦しました。

2020 is the 25th anniversary of Rory's passing, and the 10th anniversary of "Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival in Japan" which was first held in 2010. So it is the special year, we wanted to make RG Tribute a great festival with a lot of musicians participate, welcome a large number of Rory fans to a large venue. But the world has fallen into a terribly difficult situation because of the spread of COVID-19 infection.

Speaking about small live venues in Tokyo from August to September, it seemed that performers and audience were returning little by little. But it is still difficult for many people to get in and out of Tokyo. There must have been Rory fans who were afraid and hesitated to go to the festival venue located in the center of Tokyo. Looking over the world now, the number of infected people is increasing day by day, live events with crowd audience are mostly impossible.

However, the typhoon damage last year, the new corona virus disaster this year..., the cancellation of RG Tribute in Japan for 2 consecutive years is too sad. Therefore, the bands and the organizers who volunteered to keep RG Tribute in Japan had repeated discussions for holding a safety-conscious festival. We decided to hold the first online festival on the date, the 10th October, 2020, to carry the torch of Rory's soul and spirit.
