PsyRoots: Building Connection at the Core, focuses on building a Psychology Society that is grounded in connection, strengthened by support systems, and responsive to the real need of its students.
As both a student and a former year representative, I know and experienced the challenges of properly delivering student concerns and navigating an organization that is in the process of advancing its systems. And these experiences made me realize that leadership is not just about creating programs or events, but about ensuring that students feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their academic journey.
With my advocacy PsyRoots, my goal is to enhance how the organization connects with its members by improving communication, developing support systems for students, especially during transition periods, and creating a more accessible opportunities for growth and participation.
This advocacy also recognizes that connection alone is not enough. It must be supported by clear structures, consistent processes, and responsible and accountable leadership to ensure that students' concerns lead to real and lasting improvements.
In the long run, PsyRoots envision a Psychology Society where students can say that they were listened to, supported, and given opportunities to grow, an organization that is not only active, but also organized, responsive, and truly rooted in its community.
Area of Interest:
Student Connection and Engagement
Strengthening how the organization listens to, communicates with, and involves students to ensure they feel heard, represented, and actively part of the Institute of Psychology Community.
Organizational Development and Systems
Improving internal structure, coordination, and communication to create a more efficient, organized, and sustainable Psychology Society.
Student Support Systems
Developing initiatives and frameworks that guide and support students, especially during academic and organizational transitions, to help them adjust and thrive.
Opportunities and Professional Growth
Expanding access to academic, organizational, and external opportunities that allow psychology students to grow beyond the classroom and seminars.
The PsyACT Project: Reimagining Activities for Competence and Training
This platform focuses on redefining the events of the Psychology Society through a data-driven and student-centered approach. By analyzing past post-evaluations, participation patterns, and student feedback, this platform aims to review key programs and identify which activities can be improved, integrated, or refined to better meet student needs. Rather than immediately restructuring all events, selected programs will be prioritized and piloted into more workshop-based and interactive formats that encourage the real-world application of psychological concepts. Through these initiatives, events become more than just activities—they become part of a responsive system that listens to students, supports their development, and ensures that their insights lead to meaningful and sustainable improvements within the organization.
To ensure sustainability and effectiveness, PsyACT will follow a continuous improvement system that begins with data collection and needs assessment, followed by the redesign and pilot implementation of selected events. These pilot activities will then be monitored through participation tracking and feedback gathering, allowing the organization to evaluate what works and what needs adjustment. Insights gathered from this process will guide future planning and refinement, creating a cycle where student input directly shapes organizational programs. Through this structured yet adaptive system, events become more than isolated activities but become part of a responsive process that listens to students, supports their development, and ensures that improvements are consistent, meaningful, and sustainable across terms. Through these pilot initiatives, our events will become more than just activities but become part of a responsive way for the organization to listen, respond, and support students, ensuring that their voices are not only heard but translated into meaningful and continuous improvements that can also be sustained in future terms.
Daloy: Gabay sa Oportunidad
Another key part of my platform is strengthening how the organization connects students to external opportunities by addressing gaps in awareness, coordination, and accessibility. More than promoting opportunities, I aim to support the development of a more structured system that guides students in identifying opportunities that match their interests and helps them navigate the process of participation. Through continuous tracking and feedback, this system ensures that opportunities are not only promoted but are also evaluated and improved based on student experience. By improving how these opportunities are communicated and coordinated, the organization becomes more responsive to student needs, ensuring that more students are able to engage, gain exposure, and grow beyond the classroom.
Daloy will establish a guided opportunity system that begins with the active sourcing and consolidation of academic, professional, and external opportunities into a centralized and accessible channel. These opportunities will then be categorized based on student interests and academic levels, making them easier to navigate. Alongside this, clear guidance materials and coordination support will be provided to help students understand application processes and requirements. The system will also include continuous tracking of participation and feedback collection to assess accessibility, relevance, and student experience. Insights gathered will be used to refine how opportunities are selected, communicated, and supported, ensuring that access to opportunities is not only expanded but also continuously improved and aligned with student needs.
SANGA: Kaagapay sa Paglago
The focus with this platform is on developing a structured yet flexible peer connection and support system that strengthens communication and guidance among psychology students. Grounded in student needs, it creates accessible spaces for students to seek guidance, share experiences, and build connections, while also serving as a channel for the organization to better understand student concerns. By fostering both support and interaction, this platform contributes to a more connected and responsive student community.
This system will operate through a layered peer connection system that begins with access to digital platforms and organizational spaces, such as “ask-a-senior” channel, and optional peer group chats facilitated by upper-year level volunteers. Incoming sophomores will serve as initial peer volunteers, and it will be piloted with a selected group of first year students until the end of first semester to observe engagement and identify common concerns. Throughout this phase, interactions and feedback will be documented through simple tracking and check-in tools, allowing year representatives to consolidate student insights. These insights will then be relayed to the organization to inform decision, improvements, and support strategies. Based on the results of the pilot, the system will be redefined and gradually expanded to a wider student base. Through this structured yet adaptable process, SANGA, ensures that students are not only supported but also continuously heard, enabling the organization to respond more effectively and grow based on their needs.
