Building Connections and Organizational Growth
As a candidate for Vice President for External Affairs, I want my advocacy and platforms to reflect the duties and responsibilities of the role, especially in representing UMak Psychology Society in all official functions outside the organization. With that, I believe that strong organizations grow through strong connections. This advocacy focuses on strengthening the organization through building meaningful connections and lasting partnerships with universities, student organizations, and external institutions. By fostering these linkages, we can open doors to collaborations, shared learning experiences, and opportunities that go beyond what we can achieve on our own.
Furthermore, I want these connections to feel purposeful and accessible. Through these partnerships, students can gain exposure to new perspectives, develop their skills, and grow not only academically, but also personally and professionally. I recognize that growth does not only happen externally as it starts from within. By strengthening how we communicate, collaborate, and engage with others, we can build a more connected, active, and progressive Psychology Society.
Overall, this advocacy is about representing our organization with intention, building relationships that matter, and creating opportunities that allow students, members, and the organization as a whole to grow.
SIKOnnection: External Linkages with Universities and Institutions
As part of my vision for external affairs, I want to go beyond one-time interactions and focus on building sustainable and meaningful partnerships that create real opportunities for the students and members. SIKOnnection aims to establish active linkages with universities, student organizations, and relevant institutions through consistent outreach and coordination. This includes initiating partnerships while maintaining continuous communication to ensure that these connections are not short-lived, but lasting.
Through these partnerships, the organization will collaborate and co-organize activities such as joint seminars, webinars, and collaborative workshops that focus on various fields in Psychology. These initiatives provide members with the opportunity to learn from different perspectives, compare practices, and gain a broader understanding of the discipline beyond the classroom.
In addition, SIKOnnection also promotes the development of leadership and communication skills among members. By engaging in external collaborations, students gain experience in coordination with partner institutions and representing the organization. These experiences can help in preparing them for future academic and professional roles.
To ensure sustainability:
Linkages Committee - I plan to propose additional members for the Guest Relations Committee to accommodate invited guests and partner representatives during events. Together with me, the committee will focus on identifying, contacting, and coordinating with partner institutions to ensure smooth and professional communication. This will also give members clearer responsibilities before, during, and after events.
Send Formal Partnership Proposals - The organization will prepare formal letters of intent and partnership proposals containing the organization’s background, objectives, and possible collaboration initiatives.
Establish Communication Channels - Official communication channels such as email threads, group chats, coordination meetings, and shared planning documents will be created with partner organizations. Maintaining active and organized communication will help ensure that partnerships remain consistent and long-term rather than limited to one-time collaborations.
Document and Evaluate Partnerships - All partnerships and collaborative activities will be properly documented to ensure continuity and sustainability. The organization will maintain a database of partner institutions, contact details, and turnover materials for future officers. Post-evaluation forms will also be distributed after every collaboration or event to assess partnership effectiveness, communication, and overall performance, while recording feedback and outcomes to improve future collaborations.
PsyLead: Leading and Growing Beyond Limits
I believe that leadership should not be limited to a few, but it should be developed by many. Through PsyLead, I want to create an environment where students feel empowered to step forward, take initiative, and discover their potential as leaders not only within the organization, but also beyond it. This platform is about giving every member the opportunity to lead, learn, and grow at their own pace.
PsyLead focuses on holistic development by strengthening both soft skills and hard skills that are essential in real-life settings. This includes communication, teamwork, time management, and adaptability, alongside skills such as event planning, project management, documentation, and technical competencies. By developing these areas, the organization can better prepare students and its members for academic responsibilities, organizational work, and future professional environments.
To make this possible, PsyLead will introduce structured yet engaging programs such as leadership training workshops and skill-building seminars. These may include interactive activities like case presentations, event planning exercises, and scenario-based discussions where members can actively participate and apply what they learn. In addition, peer mentoring can be encouraged, where senior members or experienced leaders can guide students and members.
Furthermore, this platform emphasizes the importance of hands-on experience. Members will be encouraged to take on leadership roles by leading projects, organizing events, or contributing ideas during planning. The organization will continue to serve as a safe and supportive space where students can try, make mistakes, and improve without fear.
Lastly, PsyLead also prioritizes self-development. I understand that some students may hesitate to take on leadership roles due to self-doubt or lack of experience. Through inclusive and supportive initiatives, this platform aims to help members gradually build their confidence and recognize their strengths as they realize that leadership is something they can grow into. Overall, PsyLead is about creating leaders who are not only capable, but also confident, collaborative, and ready to take on challenges beyond the organization.
Psyche in Action: Bridging Student Voices and Action
I believe that an organization is guided by continuous feedback from students to ensure accountability, transparency, and growth. Through Psyche in Action, I want to ensure that students are not just participants in activities, but active contributors in shaping the direction of the organization. This platform centers on making student voices a driving force behind decisions, programs, and policies, reinforcing the idea that leadership should always remain connected and responsive to the needs of its members.
To achieve this, the platform will establish a structured and consistent feedback system where students can freely and safely express their opinions. This includes conducting regular surveys and evaluation forms that cover areas such as officer accountability, leadership responsiveness, communication effectiveness, and how well the organization meets the needs of the student body. By expanding feedback beyond events, we gain a clearer and more honest understanding of the organization as a whole.
However, collecting feedback is not enough and it must lead to action. That is why every feedback should be properly reviewed and translated into improvements. To promote transparency, the organization can release brief “feedback reports” or summaries highlighting common concerns, suggestions, and the steps taken in response. This allows students to see that their input is valued and taken seriously, strengthening trust between members and leadership.
Furthermore, Psyche in Action promotes openness and inclusivity. Students should feel safe to share honest thoughts without fear of judgment or dismissal. Overall, this platform aims to keep the organization truly student-centered—where leadership is not only guided by officers, but shaped by the collective voice of its members.
