This is a picture of one of the waterfalls seen along the hike in Mount Rainier. The goal of the picture was to capture the beauty of the falls. Although it is small, it is framed well by the arch of the walkway above and the natural rock formation on the sides. In this picture the goal was to appreciate the water above, at and the flow below the waterfalls. The spot where the water hits the lower level, the sun shines providing the impression of the intensity of the water forces. It is often difficult to appreciate the intensity of the falls from pictures and the light reflection seems to provide this aspect.
I hope this picture draws you in at multiple levels, starting right below the arch to the bottom of the image as the water continues down the stream. A lot of the picture focuses on the water, and the contrast of the greenery along the sides may be harder to appreciate. I love taking pictures of nature and hope to share the tranquility that we feel in that moment.

The Space Needle is a well-known landmark in Seattle. In this picture we used the composition technique of the “rule of thirds” to highlight this landmark. The Space Needle is depicted next to the Seattle skyline when seen from the harbor. The height of this building in comparison to the one next to it helps us appreciate the grandeur of this iconic piece of Seattle’s history. The viewers will hopefully focus on this feature. I was amazed at the efforts made by the people of Seattle in not only making it in record time but also the ongoing preservation of this unique architectural feat.

In this picture we get the first glimpse of Mount Rainier. With the help of the technique of leading lines, we are able to direct the viewer to the mountains. The thought process behind this picture was to capture the anticipation leading up to the moment you see the mountain. Planning a trip to Mt. Rainier involved driving out of the city towards this beautiful national park. The first glimpses of the mountain are so breathtaking and inviting. The leading lines of the road keep you engaged, and it makes you feel like you are in the car driving up to the national park with the photographer. This image makes us realize that beyond the usual humdrum of daily life commuting to and from work, we have this amazing natural beauty that is easy to overlook.
