Ringing Program
Why colour-ringing European Rollers?
Marking nestling and adult birds with an unique combination of colour rings allows recognizing birds individually and therefore study key demographic parameters such as survival rates, natal dispersion, age of first breeding, among others.
Between 2012 e 2020 we colour-ringed 1500 rollers, 450 of which were resighted at least once in the following years.
In 2023, 43 rollers were ringed, and in 2024 another 116 individuals.
Based on our ringing data we beat the previous longevity record for a roller - the new world record is from a female with 11 years!
