AG and IRT
Academically Gifted Program
Jennifer Barbour, AG Teacher
The purpose of the Academically Gifted (AG) program is to provide an appropriately challenging educational program for students who perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. In order for a student to qualify for differentiated AG services, there must be sufficient evidence to support the student's need for services, including standardized test scores and observable learning behaviors.
Fourth and fifth grade identified students receive forty-five minutes per subject area of instruction per week. Third grade students are observed during classroom visits and rotate in and out of units provided by the AG teacher. Third graders are identified after standardized test scores are received during second semester. Kindergarten through second grade teachers may consult with the AG teacher to help create and design in-class enrichment activities for those students who perform well above grade level.
