Special Education Programs

Rolesville Elementary offers a wide range of special education classes for children three to five years of age and any child in grades K - 5. Students have to meet Wake County guidelines after screening and testing to receive services and an Individualized Educational Program must be written before placement can take place. The following is a brief description of each of these programs offered at Rolesville.

Pre-Kindergarten: The preschool class at Rolesville Elementary is a full day special education class. The Pre-K class serves students that have been identified as having special education needs.

Resource: Students in grades K - 5 with learning difficulties may attend this class, as a “pull out” from the regular classroom, to receive assistance in reading, written language, and math skills. Materials, assignments, and teaching strategies are varied in application as required by the individual needs of the student.

Ms. Katresse Credle

Ms. Amanda Wasylik

Speech: Pre-kindergarten- fifth graders may receive therapy if there are significant language delays, articulation disorders, and voice and fluency problems.

Cross-categorical Kindergarten programs are early childhood classrooms that utilize a developmental approach. The classrooms use a combination of early childhood teaching principles with special education strategies and techniques. Children work and play in centers in both child initiated teacher directed activities. Instruction is provided based on the kindergarten curriculum and individual student needs. Individual, small group, and whole group instruction occurs each day. Although the majority of children are identified as developmentally delayed in the CCK classroom, children with varying areas of eligibility may be assigned. All children are Kindergarten age and are functioning developmentally between a 2.5 to 5.5 age range.
