MD_202526 - MIE BUSN10084 (CPD).pdfThere is a strong positive link between enterprise and prosperity: the world’s healthiest economies display high levels of new business start-up. Scotland along with the rest of the world needs to develop and sustain a culture of creativity and innovation to ensure that enterprise is valued and entrepreneurs get the support they need.
Enterprise Creation (BUSN09042) aims to develop confident, enterprising and creative graduates who will be able to cope with the ever changing business environment, recognise opportunities and to take responsible and measured risks. This will stimulate enterprise and encourage individuals to consider self-employment and just as importantly, to develop enterprising employees who can contribute to the success of the organisation in which they work.
This is a very practical module designed to give students a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to start up and run their own business. Starting with the initial idea students will explore and assess a business opportunity and present a feasible business concept.
Within the module there will be input from entrepreneurs key partner agencies such as Princes Trust, Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) to name but a few.
On successful completion of this module the student will be able to:
Demonstrate how the principles of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship transfer into a practical context.
Demonstrate awareness of the requirement to understand the needs, wants and behaviours of the various types of potential customers in the marketplace.
Use modern technologies and appropriate applications in explaining the key activities involved in the process of starting up a business.
Apply the concepts learned and the techniques and intellectual skills developed to suit different markets and situations and to the entrepreneurial process, to start up and manage a business venture.
Critically reflect on personal development needs and the development, skills and attributes of entrepreneurial behaviour.
This is an SCQF Level 9 module and upon successful completion, delegates will be awarded 20 credits.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites but participants should have an interest in starting their own business or may have taken the initial steps to launch a business.
Delivery
This module will be delivered entirely online. Learning materials will be hosted on our virtual learning environment and delegates are expected to work through materials in their own time. This online self-paced learning will be supplemented with live sessions.
Course presenter
This module will be delivered by Dr Robert Crammond, Senior Lecturer in Enterprise at University of the West of Scotland (UWS). His academic interests lie in enterprise and entrepreneurship education and progressing contemporary, enterprise-centric stakeholder theory. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Management and Business Educator (CMBE), Dr Crammond also teaches and coordinates across many disciplines, including subjects such as organisational behaviours and stakeholder relationships, leadership theory and practice, human resource management, organisational development and addressing business and managerial research skills.

Managers, strategists, and businesses in general, encourage both enterprise and innovation within their organisation. This involves goal setting and processes which promote idea generation, creativity, market and customer awareness, and brand or service development.
This module appreciates the importance of enterprising behaviour and implementing strategies within small-sized or family-owned businesses.
During this module, several themes and topics of relevance are addressed. These include:
Discussing and explaining enterprise and entrepreneurship
Appreciating strategy formulation, organisation, implementation and forecasting within organisations
Reflecting on current challenges from society and industry which impact organisations, partners and consumers
Considering existing factors which impact an organisation’s innovative practice and strategic decision making
In response to the assessment strategy outlined by this course, the student will complete:
A portfolio of written work comprising of both discussion and reflection of experienced practice
A presentation focusing on strategic planning for small enterprises in response to a question or scenario example
Target audience & pre-requisites
This module is aimed at anyone working in a managerial role or those who work and/or own a small business. While there are no formal pre-requisites for this, it is expected that participants have practical experience in managing a business. This is an SCQF Level 9 module and upon successful completion, participants will be awarded 20 credits. Participants will also receive certification to demonstrate completion of the course.

In today’s globally and digitally competitive organisations, there is a drive towards being creative through their brands, products, and services. Businesses must remain committed to their customer and provide quality and efficiency in what they produce and provide. In addition, managers and employees within organisations must also be innovative and enterprising.
The Managing Innovation & Entrepreneurship module (BUSN10084) highlights enterprising and creative activities within a business, and the impact this has on managers and their key functions.
Several themes and topics of relevance are encountered. These include:
Discussing the growing concept of managing innovation and entrepreneurship within organisation and the impact on managers
Appreciating management processes, people management and business creativity
Reflecting on current challenges from society and industry concerning organisations, partners and consumers
Considering existing factors, both internal and external to the organisation, which impacts an organisation’s creativity and management of innovation
In response to the assessment strategy outlined by this module, the student will complete:
A management report highlighting the importance of innovation within organisations and through referring to industry examples
The development of a training log, outlining practical ways in which managers can introduce innovative processes and promote enterprising practices for their business
