Gr 8's - Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts

Antony & Cleopatra

January 2020

Each year in January the grade 8 students stage one of William Shakespeare's tragedies. Anyone who wants to work on the set is able to do so, but a lot of the work does happen outside of school time - after school and on weekends. During school we actually need to rehease the show! The set is built over the course of about 3 weeks.

Farrow's Gold

May 2019

As soon as our Shakespeare show is done at the end of January, we start to talk about our original show. Over the 6 weeks from the beginning of February until March Break we work on creating a plot and then script writing. By March Break the students have turned in all of their writing and the script is assembled. After March Break we do auditions then get down to rehearsing, designing and building. In mid May we present 12 shows with 4 different casts. Everyone has a major role, a minor role and walk on parts. As well, the students not only build but they do costumes, props, sound and lights! Theatre in all its aspects.

If you look carefully at the floor of the set you will see that it is covered with sand. Yes, we brough in a yard of sand for the "street" of our western town!
