House of Bread: Freedom First Credit Union's LEAP Community Kitchen, 1210 Patterson Avenue SW, Roanoke, 24016 | 540-524-2327 | houseofbreadroanoke@gmail.com | Participants, who are formerly incarcerated women, take an eight-week course to learn hands-on skills for baking bread and food preparation, as well as emotional and spiritual support through one-on-one mentoring. At the end of the course, participants have earned ServSafe food handling training, as well as customer service and marketing skills and job search and resume building assistance.

Kairos Outside: PO Box 20922, Roanoke, 24018 | kairosva.koswva@gmail.com | Facebook page | A Kairos Outside Weekend is a no-cost retreat, hosted by a Christian community, for women who now have (or have had) relatives and/or friends in State and Federal prisons, jails, youth facilities, or who have been incarcerated themselves but were unable to attend a Kairos Inside Weekend. These women are shown Christ’s love and treated as Guests of Kairos Outside. To attend, Guests do not need to be Christian. Weekends are usually held twice per year and last from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.

Virginia CARES (Community Action Re-Entry System): 302 Second Street SW, Roanoke, 24011 | 540-283-4901 | Jo Anne Carter, case manager: JoAnne.Carter@tapintohope.org | Supports individuals within one year of release, as well as offering pre-release services within 6 months of release in Roanoke City Jail and Western Virginia Regional Jail. Services include job training, job searches, interview preparation, and transportation, as well as applications for rights restoration.
