Jocelyn Castiillo
Jocelyn Castillo, PhD Candidate, MA, MSLIS, is the Information Literacy and Reference Librarian at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In this role, she spearheads the library’s pedagogical program, performs reference duties that include chat, in person, and virtual reference service, and teaches library instruction classes, which include providing library instruction classes in Spanish for a research methods course helping students develop information literacy skills in their native language. As a bilingual individual, she relates to the challenges students experience when acquiring English as an additional language, and is continuously looking for ways to enhance and engage with student learning endeavors. She began her career at the New York Public Library as supporting staff advancing to supervising librarian. Her transition to academic librarianship began as an adjunct reference librarian at Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY and further developed at New Jersey City University. Her scholarly interests are in library instruction, evaluating information, and culturally responsive teaching practices in information literacy development.
