A Little About Me

Hello,

My name is Camron Hughes and I created this club with the intention to have those that are have an interest in music composing to work together to achieve something very unique: writing a full score. Now, this isn't necessarily the whole focus of the club because how would things improve if the club just stuck with one thing, year after year? It would get tiring and everyone would experience burnout. It does create a central goal in mind but the club should be about both overall improvement and individual improvement as well when it comes to music writing.

I intended to create this club freshman year, but never truly thought anyone would be of interest in this club. During the time between late junior year to senior year of high school, I was gladly proven wrong. As a freshman, I didn’t think I was prepared for taking on the hefty task of creating a club from scratch. Now I know this is manageable, even when I know there are more responsibilities to tend to than freshman year. The club rules, philosophy, and goals are not set in stone. Things will change as time progresses and the club will, without a doubt, evolve.

Additionally, this club is meant to be fun and interactive. It works similar to that of an animation studio. In an animation studio, they have writers, key animators, in-between animators, producers, color & shade animators, motion capture animators, CGI, editors, producers, and so many others that work behind the scene to achieve one goal: to create a single production, whether it be a movie or an episode series. They communicate with each other constantly to produce a quality product. The River Music Composition Club is no different. Members split tasks to produce a score throughout the year in hopes that it can be performed at the Pops Concert. It is the idea of collaborative thinking that drives this club. Mentality is everything in this club. Everyone must be on the same page. This is a challenge within itself, because many members might have different ideas about what to write, but deciding on what to do is one of the biggest challenges to start out with. The club’s goal was never meant to be very easy and the club in general should be a creative challenge to all that join it.

I honestly hear that some clubs only talk and that is about it for their activities. Talking is great and all for discussion purposes, but this club doesn’t necessarily stick to that one thing. There will be times where the club doesn't do much for club meetings and that happens with any club/organization. Although, jam sessions, ear training, parties, and guest speakers are all part of the club.

To me, music can make someone braver, smarter, and stronger no matter what kind of situation that person may be in.

Work to be creative, so that it is no longer work.

Good luck in all that you may do!

Sincerely,

Camron Hughes, Author Bryan Jaeckel, Main Advisor
