Randolph-Macon College: First Annual Honor Band, January 10, 2026

Join us on January 10, 2026, for the First Annual Randolph-Macon College Honor Band. The festive day of music-making will take place in RMC's new Center for the Performing Arts, conveniently located in the heart of the Commonwealth, just off Interstate 95 in Ashland, Virginia.

High school musicians nominated and accepted will join other students from across Virginia for rehearsals with RMC Music Faculty, connect with RMC Music Students, and have lunch and dinner on campus. The $60 registration fee (due December 31) also includes the one-of-a-kind, first-ever 2026 RMC Honor Band T-Shirt!

Director Nominations & Student Acceptance

High school directors are invited to nominate experienced band students in grades 9–12 for participation in the RMC Honor Band.

Director nominations close on November 30, and can be made by using the linked form below.

Students will be notified of their acceptance by December 12; the accepted student registration form and fees ($60) are both due on December 31.

Randolph-Macon College is home to a growing community of creative, collaborative musicians and dynamic ensembles.

RMC's Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers are all curricular ensembles made up of students from across the college; our student musicians represent nearly every major on campus, in addition to many of RMC's Division III athletic teams.

RMC's instrumental ensembles have been recognized nationally for their creativity and musicality, including invitations to perform on prominent stages (the College Band Directors National Association's 2022 Southern Division Conference) and major awards(the 2020 Vytautas Marijosius Memorial Award for Orchestral Programming).

Many student musicians choose to audition for a Macon Music Scholarship as part of their application process, but an audition is not required to perform in the Wind Ensemble or Symphony Orchestra.

The Music Program, housed within the Department of Arts, offers a Music Major with an emphasis in either Performance & History (B.A., Music) or Pedagogy ("Music Education" – B.A., Music & B.A., Education, w/Virginia K-12 Music Licensure). Though most of RMC's student musicians are not Music majors, many choose to minor in music and take other classroom music courses, or are majoring in Arts Management with a Music Emphasis.

Our talented Music faculty carefully craft student experiences in major and non-major settings, from ensembles to classroom courses to on-location travel courses in Japan. Many of RMC's applied studio faculty perform with the Richmond Symphony, and beyond!

RMC's musical alumni, from majors to minors to singers to instrumentalists, are shaping the future of music throughout the Commonwealth and the country. These alumni Jackets are creating cutting-edge musical experiences for students and audiences that range from the Richmond Folk Festival to K-12 music classrooms, television shows like NBC's The Voice and Netflix's Building the Band, even sold-out arena shows... the band Carbon Leaf was founded at RMC, on the very stage where you will perform!
