Glemmen videregående skole is one of the largest Upper Secondary VET schools in Norway. The School has about 1400 pupils and approximately 280 employees. The pupils are mainy between 16- 19 years old, but we also have adult learners. We offer different lines of study; Health and Social care, Food and Beverage, Electronics, Mechanics and Arts and Crafts. In addition we have the possibility for students to continue to general studies. We offer some special studies for pupils who need science subjects, like maths, physics and chemistry combined with VET subjects. The county in which Glemmen is situated, is one of the poorest in the country and has one of the highest drop-out rates on the national level. The school therefore has a focus on preventing dropout, and to motivate the pupils to finish with good results. The unemployment rate in the county is quite high, as the level of education is low. The school has a focus on adapting to 21. Century skills. During the last years we have had a constant focus on how to change methods and didactics to prepare our students for the future working life. This is also a way of motivating the pupils to stay in School,
and to give the teachers more methods to motivate the pupils. The motivation of the School is we see that pupils choose their education traditionally, even though women’s rights stand strong in our country. In the Department of Health and Social Care more than 80% of the pupils are female, and there is a need to challenge our girls. Not only do we choose traditionally when it comes to profession, but women still do most housework, spend more time with the kids, take the majority of the parental leave and do not want to go into jobs as leaders as often as men. It is time to change this, and this project could be a wake-up call for the involved pupils. There will be two key people running this project, in addition to the involved teachers. The key person one in this project will be Christiane Sofie Skahjem, who is the leader of the Health and social care department and General Studies and also one of the leaders at the school who are in charge of all the international projects the school is involved in. She has experience in several projects, and has studied English, History and Social science at university level. The other key person is Selma Kulaglic, who is a history and English teacher, as well as being the Head of Department of the Social Sciences. She is also a member of the internation alization team of the school, and has experience within this field. We have also included two teachers of the subject of history and social science, who are eager to contribute.
