Traits Illustrated by: DeltaZero
Pokémon within the basic class are as standard as you can get. They usually look pretty similar to their species' average, but can come with different markings or colors!
[Basic traits affect color.]
Default Pokémon with no traits still have a little flexibility in how they can look.
Examples of changes that are allowed without traits are the following:
Minor marking changes, such as tipped extremities or small markings like freckles.
Healed missing body parts, like a missing leg. This is achievable both through being born without it or losing it in an accident. Your Pokémon cannot be missing vital parts, such as the head or body, or have permanent open wounds unless they have an additional trait such as Undead.
Changes to eye shape and/or color.
Change the position of the parts on the body, such as making ears floppy, changing a quadrupedal Pokémon to bipedal, or vice versa.
Changes to hair/fur length, only affects Pokémon with hair/fur already on them.
First Example shows a default Zorua with no visible changes.
Second Example shows a Zorua with a lighter tipped tail, and darker tipped ears.
ANY changes to the Pokémon's default markings, new colors can be added as long as the majority of the design remains as the original colors. Slight changes to any anatomical parts is also permitted, such as making snouts longer, making floppy ears, giving pawpads to Pokémon that otherwise lack them, etc.
Application Item: Heart Scale
Example shows a Zorua with light grey markings on its legs, ears, snout, and tail, alongside star markings on its leg and cheek.
ANY changes to the Pokémon's default colors, This can include shinies however NOT ALL shiny Pokémon require this trait (Ie. subtle shinies, such as Gengar or Pikachu.)
Application Item: Heart Scale
First Example shows a Zorua with a fully recolored body.
Second Example shows a Shiny Zorua. Despite having mostly default colors, This counts as colored rather than Variant due to the markings remaining entirely the same.
Pokémon within the mutant class aren't too different from default class Pokémon, they just have a few physical oddities that make them stand out!
[Most Mutant traits affect physical anatomy.]
Certain parts of the Pokémon’s body appear more often than what is natural. No upper limit to how many parts of the design it can be affect at once.
This trait cannot be used to create an additional body unless you are a multi-bodied Pokémon such as Falinks or Tandemaus.
Application Item: Four-Leaf Clover
Example shows a Zorua with 3 tails, rather than 1.
Allows a Pokémon to gain keratin-based growth on their body.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Horns/Spines/Antlers
Claws/Hooves
Scales/Natural armor
Hair/Fur
Feathers/Wings
Fur Tails
Larger teeth/Fangs
Application Item: Golden Antler
Example shows a Zorua with hooves, antlers, and fur growth on legs, ear-tips, and spine.
The Pokémon's body has parts made of or is entirely made of any non-organic material, such as Glass, Rock, Water, Fabric, Plastic, Metal, etc.
This material cannot be something fully transparent, like air, and it cannot be something Intangible/Non-physical like code or soundwaves. Any combination of materials can be used within a design at once, you are not restricted to using only one type of material.
This trait can achieve certain aesthetic appearances, such Food-themed Pokémon, Robots, Plushies, Toys, Crystal growth, and more!
Robot Pokémon built through this trait do not count as Paradox Pokémon, due to not being explicitly from a future universe.
Application Item: Iridescent Seaglass
First Example shows a Zorua made of metal, resembling a robot.
Second Example shows a Zorua made of fabric and cotton, resembling a plush toy.
Pokémon with this trait possess a type that is not ordinary for their species. This can replace or add onto the already existing types the Pokémon has for a maximum of 4 types.
This trait does not necessarily need to influence the design, you can simply choose to use the trait to give your Pokémon a new/changed typing for personal lore or preference!
The current types that you can use are all canon pokemon types, stellar, AND ???
The Stellar Delta type is represented by rainbows, crystals, and elements from all canon types.
The ??? Delta type represents the phenomenon of a Pokémon who has forgotten themself. It can manifest as glitches, fading, or darkness.
Application Item: Type Plate
Example shows a Delta(Fire) Zorua, where flames replace its mane and bursts from the tailtip.
The Pokémon's body is entirely or has parts that are bioluminescent, sparkling like glitter, or visually appears holographic.
With bioluminescent Pokémon specifically, they are often able to control the brightness of the glow at will, so they can turn them on and off at will like a lightbulb.
Application Item: Radiant Prism
Example shows a Zorua with blue bioluminescent stripe and star markings. This particular example would also require the Variant trait.
Possessing traits from any other Pokémon in their evolutionary line.
The evolutions accessible with Intermediate trait include the following:
Evolutions
Pre-evolutions
Branched Evolutions (Politoed + Poliwrath, Vileplume + Bellossom)
Regional Forms (K.Meowth + Perrserker, Zigzagoon + Galarian Zigzagoon)
Does not include:
Mega forms
Dynamax forms
Application Item: Eviolite
Example shows a Zorua with Zoroark's ponytail, hair highlights, neck fur, and eye markings.
Pokémon with this trait is entirely or has parts that are bigger or smaller than normal! This may affect the whole body or only a small portion!
This trait can also mirror the look of Alpha Pokémon, and thus if you are wishing to achieve that look, you'd need this trait.
This change permanently affects the Pokémon's body, and affected parts can only be a max of x5 larger or smaller.
Application Item: Modify Lens
First Example shows a Zorua smaller than a default member of its species.
Second Example shows a Zorua with a significantly smaller tail.
Pokémon in the Mystic class are somewhat magical or surprising in nature! They usually have a few tricks up their sleeves to help them in any given situation!
[Most Mystic traits affect magical abilities.]
Pokémon with this trait tend to seem Zombie-like, such as having stitches, appearing ghost-like/skeletal, or are simply written into their own lore as being revived in some way. Sometimes, as a result of this trait, these Pokémon may be immortal. In other cases, Pokémon with this trait find themselves able to heal from any wound or are capable of healing/reviving others. In rare cases, Undead traited Pokémon gain the ability to control/raise the dead.
This trait cannot be used to represent extreme gore, please be respectful to other users and spoiler/provide warnings for Pokémon who may be visually upsetting or triggering.
Application Item: Petrify Stone
First Example shows Zorua possesing a more zombie-like interpretation of this trait, with visible scarring and a small open wound.
Second Example shows a Zorua possesing a more necromancer-like interpretation of this trait, with purple eyes, a black wispy tail, and raising the dead.
Minor Body Horror
(Exposed Ribs, No blood)
Pokémon with this trait can switch between a default form and a transformed form. The transformed form can be designed in any way that the user way would like, such as a werewolf, vampire, dragon, your own creative creature design, and more!
The only rule is to make sure that your transformed design visually resembles the Pokémon it is meant to be based on, otherwise your design may be rejected.
Transformed forms must at LEAST a physical/anatomical difference compared to the original form, such as larger size, change in teeth shape, added horns, changing posture, etc.
Application Item: Reveal Glass
Example shows a Zorua with a default and transformed form, the transformed form includes a much larger body, red eyes, claws, spines, and messy fur.
The Pokémon embodies their own type! A large majority or the entirety of their body will HAVE a physical representation of that type on themselves!
For multi-typed Pokémon, you can use any/all of the types in the design. This trait can also be stacked with Delta to change the type that the Elemental trait manifests as.
Application Item: Elemental Gemstone
First Example shows a Zorua made of darkness/shadows, due to being a Dark Type.
Second Example shows a Zorua with both the Delta(Fire) trait AND the Elemental trait.
Given the powers of the cosmos, Pokémon with this trait visually have themes of space! They sometimes have alien-like mannerisms and powers, as well, such as strange speech, moving as if they are in a low-gravity environment, not having a grasp on culture around them, and obsessive stargazing.
Cosmic Pokémon's designs typically have themes resembling any of the following:
Space/Stars
The Sun/Moon
Eclipses
Meteors/Comets/Comet trails
Spacedust/Nebulas
Rings/Halos
Application Item: Comet Shard
Example shows a Zorua with star markings scattered throughout the design, along with a floating white ring surrounding its tail. This example would not need the colored trait, due to the Cosmic trait allowing for more purple/blue tones by default.
Parts float around the pokemon. These parts are organic by default (such as floating head, wings, arms, etc.) but can be inorganic if combined with the Inanimate trait (such as floating clouds, rocks, orbiting objects, etc.)
When applied to the entire body at once, a Pokémon will be able to levitate a few feet off of the ground, but not properly fly.
Application Item: Float Stone
First Example shows a Zorua with floating head and paws.
Second Example shows a Zorua with both the Floating AND Inanimate trait, allowing for floating rocks to surround its body.
The Pokémon can make itself bigger or smaller at will. This comes with a limit of x5 bigger or smaller than the Pokémon's base size.
Application Item: Augment Plate
Example shows a Zorua in two seperate sizes, bigger and smaller, compared to a default member of its species.
Pokémon under this trait are often seen as bordering godhood, and are often granted the ability to harness powers and abilities many others cannot, or their current abilities are further empowered than before. Though, in some cases, this trait could be considered a curse placed upon them.
You will only be allowed to use a small amount of abilities/curses, limited to no more than 3 choices per Divine character.
For unlimited abilities you will be required to access the Godly Title.
Examples of what you can do with this trait:
Small amounts of Mind Control. This should not be permanent nor impossible to combat. Pokémon under mind-control should be able to break out in some way, even if it's difficult. You also should not be able to control entire crowds at once, instead try to keep it to a max of 3 at any time.
Hammerspace (An instantly accessible storage area within a self-contained pocket dimension. For example, reaching into a long mane or tail to pull out/store a large object)
Examples: Pinkie Pie (My Little Pony), Lion (Steven Universe), Spider-Ham (Spider-Verse).)
Midas Touch (The ability to turn something into a different material or alter its state of being, whether by choice or involuntarily.)
Examples: Turning objects to dust, stone to gold, life to ice, etc.
Magic Spells (Such as illusions, or summoning light, manifesting holograms, or causing weather changes.)
Future Vision (Prophetic dreams, Pinkie Sense (My Little Pony), Future Sight (Garnet, Steven Universe))
Flight/Levitation (Wings not required but can be added with this trait. Added wings can be physical or manifested.)
Minor Shapeshifting (Changing a small part of your body, such as changing paws to talons or growing horns.)
Toon Physics (When force is applied upon this character, they bounce and stretch back into place as if they retained no harm.)
...And more! If you are unsure if an ability would fit under this trait, or if it would require Godly, feel free to contact the mods to check with us
You CANNOT DO the following things with this trait:
Evolution Shifting/Evolving at will
Extreme Color Shifting (ONE Minor color change, for example a single marking swapping between blue and red, would be ok, but an entire body shift or multiple color shifts is not allowed.)
Creating life (Temporary Life/Holograms are fine, however. Such as illusions or lifeforms that disappear after a short amount of time.)
Long-distance Teleportation (You may teleport a short distance, but not across an entire continent.)
Dimension Hopping
Time travel
Extreme Traitshifting, Shapeshifting, or Sizeshifting (Sizeshifter trait, Godly Title, or Shapeshifting Title would be required to achieve these.)
Application Item: Gilded Petal
Example shows a Zorua with manifested wings and a halo.
Example shows a Zorua with bat wings, added horns, a halo, and shapeshifted claws.
(Divine does not necessarily have to appear Angelic/Demonic, these are just for the sake of examples!)
Pokémon within the Undiscovered class typically appear vastly different from their usual appearances, possessing strange qualities that make them stand out!
These traits have only been recently discovered, so it is understandable that many Pokémon don't quite comprehend where they came from.
Many Undiscovered Pokémon appear to be a manifestation of a certain energy or are regular Pokémon possessed by certain energies.
[Most Undiscovered traits affect the Pokémon's overall theme.]
These Pokémon are very rarely seen, viewed as myths in some places due to their strange nature. These Pokémon seem to be spirits embodying a particular type of emotion or feeling that grows in strength during a certain time of year. Most often seen around the time that the Night of Terrors festival occurs, Jack-O Pokémon take on a spookier appearance and often find joy in playing pranks/scaring other Pokémon for fun.
The Jack-O trait can manifest in a multitude of ways, including but not limited to:
Pumpkins/Jack-o-lanterns
Spiderwebs/Spidery limbs
Bones/Skeletal themes (Implied to be alive, not undead.)
Zombie-like stitches (ALSO not undead)
Witch themes, Potions, Neon Green/Purple liquids
Autumn leaves/Vines
Black, Brown, Orange, Yellow, Purple, and Green palettes
Floating/Missing head [Head-less Horsemon]
Natural Bioluminescence (Most commonly through eyes, mouth, or flesh)
(Please take care to not use this trait to intentionally design a Pokémon that appears genuinely frightening/unsettling to viewers. Being purposefully horrifying is not the way this trait should be used, as it's meant to be used for friendly/light-hearted spooks.)
Application Item: Carved Pumpkin
Example shows a Zorua that resembles a living pumpkin, adorned with autumn leaves and overgrown vines.
Example shows a Zorua with a pumpkin tail, spider legs, stitches along the body, floating head, spiderweb patterns, and a spooky glowing face.
These Pokémon are very rarely seen, viewed as myths in some places due to their strange nature. These Pokémon seem to be spirits embodying a particular type of emotion or feeling that grows in strength during a certain time of year. Most often seen around the time that the Snowfall festival occurs, Snowfall Pokémon take on a merrier appearance and often find joy in providing warmth and fun for other Pokémon for fun.
The Snowfall trait can manifest in a multitude of ways, including but not limited to:
Snow/Ice Themes
Snowman-like (Snow-body, Button/Coal eyes, Carrot nose, Stick limbs, Scarves)
Snow/Frost aura (Flurry of Snowflakes that surrounds the body)
Holly/Wreaths/Mistletoe/X-mas Trees
Strings of lights/Candles
Candy/Candycanes
Wrapped in ribbons/wrapping paper
Palettes of Red/Green or Blue/White
Ornaments/Tinsel/Bells
Deer Antlers/Glowing Nose
Gingerbread-mon
Application Item: Everlasting Snowflake
Example shows a Zorua that resembles a snowman with a scarf. It is also surrounded by an aura of snowflakes.
Example shows a Zorua that resembles a reindeer, including string lights, ornaments, candy, and a harness.
Example shows a Zorua that resembles a gingerbread-man, including icing, a holly-leaf bow, and gumdrop accents on the tail.
Special Traits are separate from regular traits and are able to be rarely passed down when breeding.
Special Titles are special abilities you can apply to your Pokémon with items.
Does not influence design. Allows access to Beta Pokémon through intermediate, evolution, or devolution.
Not the same as Corrupted, does not influence design. Allows access to Glitch Pokémon through intermediate, evolution, or devolution.
