Thank you to all that made RHSMUN 2022 possible, we hope to see you again next year!
Historical Crisis Committee
IRANIAN HOSTAGE CRISIS
The Historical Crisis Committee (HCC), is a committee unlike any other. During the committee, delegates will be tasked with navigating the Iranian Hostage Crisis in the cabinet of President Jimmy Carter, where they will have to respond to the American Public, Hostage Takers, and the Iranian Government. Whether the delegates decide to negotiate with the Hostage Takers for their safe passage out of Iran or abandon the hostages, it will be up to the delegates to shape history.
Although the HCC is best suited for experienced delegates, it is open to all those who wish to challenge themselves and develop their skills of negotiation and diplomacy.
All HCC delegates please note that position papers are mandatory for this committee.
Director
Emily is currently a senior at ‘Iolani School and is ecstatic to be serving as the Director of the Historical Crisis Committee at RHSMUN 2022. When she was introduced to the Model United Nations world a couple of years ago, Emily was immediately drawn to the competitive debate, rigorous research, and realistic diplomacy that this activity has to offer. From debating Bloody Sunday at PACMUN 2019 to getting lost with her MUN team while exploring downtown Vancouver during VMUN 2020, she hopes that delegates will have similar experiences at the first iteration of RHSMUN. Outside of Model United Nations, Emily can be found leading her school’s congressional debate team and theatre program, attempting to finish her assignments for classes, and planning a significant event that she knows will not happen. Emily is confident that all delegates will enjoy the thrilling debate of RHSMUN 2022.
Chair
Matthew is a Grade 11 student at Burnaby North Secondary School and is delighted to be serving as your Chair for the Historical Crisis Committee. Despite being relatively new to the world of Model United Nations, Matthew has found himself enthralled by the fast paced and contentious environment, and is excited to delve headfirst into his next committee! Some of his interests include gaming, reading, long walks throughout the evening, and long philosophical conversations that lead to nothing at all. Matthew is hopeful that your Model United Nations experience will be fruitful, and the lessons you learn will last a lifetime. With eager anticipation, Matthew looks forward to meeting you all at this first iteration of RHSMUN!
Crisis Staff
Harry Peng is a grade 11 IB student at Richmond Secondary School and he is beyond honoured to be serving as the Crisis Staff for HCC at the first iteration of RHSMUN. Ever since a long time ago, he has expressed great interest in international affairs, so he was thrilled to have ventured into the world of Model United Nations. When he is not browsing through old maps, he can be found programming, playing the clarinet, or doing absolutely nothing. Harry sincerely hopes that everyone will learn something and enjoy the discussions at the upcoming conference!
Crisis Staff
Sara is currently a sophomore at Steveston-London Secondary School and is honored to be the Crisis Staff of the Historical Crisis Committee at the first iteration of RHSMUN. Since partaking in her first committee session in the ninth grade, Sara has become fond of the interprofessionalism and diplomacy of Model United Nations. Fascinated by the complexity of historical advancements and the individuals responsible, she hopes to spark the same excitement within her committee. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, skiing, and photographing nature. Sara looks forward to an exemplary conference, full of fruitful debate and remarkable experiences for everyone at RHSMUN 2022!
