You can make your own word family spinner with an old kitchen roll, a hanger, a pair of scissors and some tape!
Think of some rhyming words like cat, bat, sat, mat. You can write the end of the word on one part of your kitchen roll (you could write more than one ending!) and the beginning letters of the words on a separate part. Now start rolling! How many words can you make?
To count the number of syllables in a word, you should:
say the word
clap every time you hear a separate vowel sound
(A, E, I, O or U)
count how many times you clapped
Please find some worksheets to help you practise this here.
Listen to the song on the left. Can you think of some rhyming words?
Please print the games and activities to practise rhyming -

One way of approaching a word which has one syllable is to break it into two parts: an onset (first consonant or consonant blend) and a rime (the vowel and consonants that follow).
When completing these listening activities have some scissors and a glue stick to hand. You will need an adult to read the text. Click here to find.
