Resumen

Existe un importante número de personas que padecen de dolor persistente en el mundo. Sin embargo, sus manifestaciones clíncas pueden variar significativamente entre sí. Por lo que es posible identificar tres tipos de dolor predominantes: nociplástico, neuropático y nociceptivo. El objetivo de este estudio es realizar una revisión narrativa de la literatura que permita definir puntos relevantes para la elaboración de un diagnóstico diferencial, junto con ejemplos de descripciones clínicas, puntos clave y signos útiles para identificar los distintos tipos de dolor musculoesquelético. La aplicación de un proceso de diagnóstico diferencial facilita la elección de herramientas, abordajes y selecció de información destinada a usuarios que consultan por dolor musculoesquelético.

Differential Diagnosis in Musculoskeletal Pain: A Narrative Review

Abstract

There are a significant number of people suffering from persistent pain in the world. However, their clinical manifestations can vary significantly from one another. Thus, it is possible to identify three predominant types of pain: nociceptive, neuropathic and nociceptive. The aim of this study is to conduct a narrative review of the literature to define relevant points for the elaboration of a differential diagnosis, together with examples of clinical descriptions, key points and useful signs to identify the different types of musculoskeletal pain. The application of a differential diagnosis process facilitates the choice of tools, approaches and selection of information for users consulting for musculoskeletal pain.
